“Success does not exist without Struggle”
Born in the Bronx, New York, Perry “P- Guttah” Heyward lived in the South Bronx until the age of nine. At ten Guttah moved to Harlem and has resided in New York since. Born the first of three children he lived with both his parents until the young age of seventeen. Growing up in the “hood” Guttah experienced first hand the life of gun toting, gangs, drug dealers, drug addicts, thieves and murderers. Hip Hop was also a huge part of life for Guttah. Rapping started as a hobby then as an escape from day-to-day problems. Rapping was something he and his crew did in Black Park in the middle of Carver Projects on 106th Street. When he noticed he could actually move and excite a crowd Guttah started to build his vocabulary and perfect the delivery of his rhymes. But more excited by street life, after his second arrest, he was caught up in a felony case resulting in jail time. April 2001, he was sentenced to 5 years flat in the New York State penitentiary system. During his bid he lost his girlfriend and almost lost his grandmother, both of which played a huge role in his earlier years. After his release in March of 2007 most of his time has been spent in the studio working on his future albums one called , “Good with the Bad” which is a true collaboration of his life experiences. After listening P-guttah music/lyrics, most have a hard time believing Guttah is only 23 years young. |
