Pale were initially formed in late 2004 with Mikey Clark on Vocal, Shaun 'Gep' Gennard on Bass, Andy 'jon-bon' Pickford on Drums, and Stu Harvey on Guitar. A handfull of successful gigs later and it wasn't long before both Andy and Stu felt the need to depart, being replaced by Mark Lewis on guitar and Stoobie Robinson on drums. As 2005 progressed the sound was begining to take shape and gigging began in earnest. From these early gigs a demo CD called 'Live Sampler' was recorded live @ JB's in Dudley. Pale came 3rd of 32 bands in Stafford University's Battle of the Bands. Gigging expanded to encompass the local cities of Wolverhampton, Dudley and Lichfield. Almost 30 gigs were played that year as Pale honed and refied both the music and the live performance, building a good local and remote following in the process. Another demo EP was released in October, this time called "An Unmutual Prospect" followed after a brief visit to a recording studio, Pale producing the music themselves.
2006 saw Pale continue in this vein, adding Birmingham and Stoke to the list of cities being played in, culminating in 2 festival performances at 'The Middle of Nowhere' festival and 'Live @ The Castle' festival both in the Stafford area. By the summer Stoobie had made it clear he needed to leave the band to persue other matters, and so Pale let him go with a fond farewell and much time was spent looking for his replacement. While at the same time continuing to write and perfect the songs in the practice room, and mixing tracks from the previous studio visit into a EP called 'An Endless Game' which would be released the following year.
As 2007 arrived Pale found a replacement drummer in Aaron Harvey, who was to work with Pale and gigging re-commenced. With center of town pubs in Stafford now willing to have Pale play the local support continued to increase and the first BBC Radio Session was broadcast in August. That summer the EP was released via most major music providers online. By December however, the Spinal-Tap-Hammer struck again as Aaron decided to leave the band. He was immediately replaced by Stoobie Robinson, our previous drummer, who agreed to play for us until we found another replacement. Since then Pale have continued to update their set, adding new material and moving on from some of the older. The sound was developing again and they were soon back to gigging before the year was out.
2008 so far has seen Pale back to frequently gigging, writing, recording and some local festival interest. Pale are at work recording on their own home-made studio, freeing up the pressure that limited time in a studio enforces. They have played a 2nd BBC Session in April with some of the new material, to great appraise, and have gigs lined up to the summer and beyond.
As 2008 continues it will see Pale releasing their own recorded album, all stages of the recording and production done themselves. Also gigs in an expanding area and further refinement of the Pale sound and the live show.
"Pale are wringing some ankst from the combo of slash-jangle alternating with storm-force guitars ..." www.Unpeeled.co.uk
"Pale have put a lot of thought into writing the lyrics for these tracks, and it can be said that they were written for Mikey’s unusual and eerie voice...Perfect is an excellent track...has an atmosphere about it that takes you on a spiralling journey of never ending riffs that would put Steve Harris to shame(!)" Debbie Wickett of www.Planetthrash.com
"...a combination of extremely rapid, varied guitar riffs, steady drum beats, heavy bass..." Get Knotted (GK) Student Magazine, Stafford Uni.
"Perfect starts madly, like a speeded up Wire, then yearning rawk vocals spread over the fidgety energy, but this is likeable stuff, with fascinating interplay between the slender, slippery guitar and bass which provide real melodic control...Curebind is the one...with cool lyrics and an utterly glorious chorus..." www.mickmercer.com
"...contains an edge that I just can’t quite put my finger on..." Steve Hough, StickyLicky Music UK.
