His mix of rich textured sounds, anthemic and emotional melodies combine with retro beats to produce electronic music that is distinctive and original. His music is influenced by people as diverse as Jarre, Underworld and Yello and always by a strong melody.
Paul has been writing music since he was a child using Casio keyboards. He progressed to synths and computer sequencers in the 90s and then eventually to the modern day equipment he uses today.
His studio and setup is very modest, a very feature light PC sequencer, a few free VSTs, a Roland Synth and an 80’s Casio keyboard from his childhood. The studio itself is a 200 year old outside toilet now converted (minus the loo) inot a compact but comfortable plave to create. Paul is a strong believer in knowing your equipment well rather than spending a load of money on a load of gear.
His first publicly available album called `The Silence` attracted many admirers and within months of its release led to him signing for Washington DC label Fluid Groove Records. This lead to an EP release, radio plays and high chart positions in various internet charts.
His MySpace profile has had over 21000 listens in the past two years with little or no promotional work being put in. His feedback from listeners has been very positive on many websites and although he has had a few technical problems over the past 18 months things are now back on track.
His latest EP is taken from his forthcoming album. Those that have heard the four tracks have already hailed the tracks as stunning work that shows a new maturity and sophistication to his sound.
His music may not be the current `in` sound but take time to listen to its intricacies, deep musical content and rich sounds and you are in for an imaginative and satisfying time. The new album is soon to follow and Paul feels confident that the music industry is at last ready for the Paul Madsen sound.
