you couldn\'t call Pete Doherty a hero or role model, and he doesn\'t expect to.
he is a rock star not a role model and has never claimed otherwise.
Born in Hexam on the 12th of march 1979,
Doherty had shown a talent for writing at a young age.
despite his more recent behaviour Peter has always been a bright young man, winning a poetry competition at 16, achieving 11 top grades in his GCSEs and being offered an english literature scholarship to oxford university. as well as his academic achievements doherty is a well travelled man as his father was member of the british army and as result has lived in liverpool, london,belfast,coventry, dorset and cyprus.
pete dropped out of university after one year and went on to live with Carl barat, whom he met through his sister and had become extremely close with.
barat and doherty formed the band, the libertines.
the band released their debut single, \'what a waster\' in 2002 and their debut album up the bracket swiftly followed. the band then shot to stardom with the help of their volatile live peformances and earned themselves a large cult following.
later, doherty was expelled from the band due to his drug abuse.
in the summer of 2003, lisa moorish , mother of liam gallagher\'s son, gave birth to astile, pete\'s child. In that same summer doherty broke into his bestfriend carl\\\'s flat and stole a number of items including a laptop and an antique guitar, which barat treasured greatly, and was sentenced to six months in prison. on his day of release he was welcomed by carl with whom he had reconciled through correspondence.
doherty was also wlcomed back into the band and they worked on their second, self titled album.however, much to carl\'s annoyance and upset, pete\'s drug continued ripping their strong and famous relationship apart.pete was once again expelled from the band as their second album soared to number one.
since the tragic ending of the libertines doherty went on to release the outstanding \'for lovers\' with wolfman, which was nominated for the prestigious ivor novello award. he then released a solo single, babyshambles, and soon formed a band under the same name. after releasing the successful single \'killamangiro\', the band failed to turn up at their london astoria gig, the first in a string of missed gigs, on his shameful drug habits and his turbulent relationship with kate moss.
doherty , unfortunatly, remains estranged from his former co-frontman, barat, although they briefly met in april \'05 in london\'s boogaloo bar.
