Pier Nineteen are a band on the brink. They're about to release their much anticipated debut album, At Evensong. They have a busy schedule planned for a nationwide tour and the expectations are high.
Their only record previous to this was an E.P. released nationwide over 2 years ago which sold out in weeks. One of the first tracks ever recorded by the band, 2-39am December was featured on a compilation of Irish unsigned bands and entered the Irish Charts at Number 6.
The popularity of their debut E.P. Knocking Two Stones lead to several high profile Irish artists sitting up and taking notice of the Galway trio. Pier Nineteen played support to Bell X1 on a nationwide tour as well as other established artists. They also played at the Tennents Intro Festival in 2005.
At Evensong is a melodic cacophony of guitars, keyboards and drums with a banjo, trumpet, mandolin and even a euphonium thrown in to add to the unique flavour of this band's sound. Each song demonstrates the individuality of its composers and their various sounds compliment each other to truly connect with the listener.
The simple honesty of the music bears all the hallmarks of frontman Keith Mullins writing. Renowned for his open and unassuming lyrics with catchy melodies, it was only a matter of time before the band would emerge to stake a claim in the Irish music scene.
Pier Nineteens material has recently featured as the backing soundtrack on a number of RTE TV shows. They have also taken the initiative in the U.S., getting airplay on a number of college radio stations such as WMFO, a popular college radio station in Boston, and KCRW in LA. The band intend to schedule an extensive tour of U.S. colleges promoting the album over the next year.
Back home, they will be touring the country over the coming months including gigs in Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Belfast, promoting their album, At Evensong.
Pier Nineteen stand out from the crowd of bands in Ireland's exciting and vibrant new music scene. At Evensong is evidence of this. These guys fresh, talented band that people will be talking about.
