Alecia Beth Moore was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1979. For as far back as she can remember, all she ever wanted to do was sing. She would sing every chance she got - school plays, gospel at church, punk bands at 13. She said: "Any problem I've ever had just fades away when I'm on stage."
When Alecia was only 7 years old, her parents split up, which was the milestone in a life torn apart. Her father, Jim, was a Vietnam Veteren, and her mother, Judy, was an ER nurse - she has a brother, Jason, who is two years older than she is.
The turning point in her "career" came when she was just 16 years old: she was at a club and her friends told her to get up on stage and sing, so she did. The DJ told her that she had a good voice and that if she came back on Friday's he'd give her a guest spot.
Not long after that, she was signed by LA Reid and she was recording her first album, Can't Take Me Home.
The name "P!nk" came about for various reasons. One being that growing up, her and her friend's favorite movie was Resevoir Dogs. The character Mr. Pink in the movie is a wise-ass and all of Alecia's friends agreed that she was Mr. Pink... The name stuck. (However LA and her decided that they should drop the "Mr." because it was likely to confuse people!) She now even has a tattoo that says "Mr. Pink" - it's on her inner left thigh. (She has over 20 tattoos all together!)
After her first album was such a success, P!nk recorded her second album, M!ssundaztood. She felt that her first record didn't portray who she really was so she went against what everyone told her to do, and she created M!ssundaztood. The entire album is a realistic portrayal of her life. Brutal, honest, painful, but very real. Very truthful. After that album was released she had finally made a name for herself. P!nk is quoted as saying: "The feedback that I got from listeners and from music lovers was, like, 'thank you for helping me not commit suicide', 'thank you for not being skinny', and to me, that's bigger than music. I don't care what anyone says about me. I always thought there was a reason for the pain, there was a reason for the experience, there was a reason for everything. And here it is: this is my reason. This is my mission." Her dream was fullfilled with M!ssundaztood. She was making music for the reasons she always wanted to: to get herself heard, to tell the truth. She said: "When I made M!ssundaztood, it was like 'yes, finally I will be heard.'" She's also quoted as saying: "I accept the challenge that kids are going to be relating to me moreso than to a lot of other people because I am telling the truth, and I have been there."
In November of 2003, P!nk released her third album, Try This. At the age of 24 when the album was released, P!nk had matured drastically, and so had her music. She says: "I have a humble side to me. I have a sweet side to me. I have a girly-girl side to me. I have, you know, the hopeless romantic, and tough outer shell... I'm like an egg. I'm like a hard-boiled egg." When she was creating Try This, she just wanted it to be more fun. She didn't want to get up on stage and cry everytime she performed, like she did with M!ssundaztood. She just wanted to have fun. There are many songs on the album that have heavy messages, but they're conveyed through upbeat tempos and hard-rock music. Try This also contains the very first love song that P!nk ever wrote. It's appropriately called Love Song.
"I believe that in this world there are leaders and there are followers, and I hope to be a leader every morning when I wake up. For me, it's not really a choice, like I don't set out like 'I'm gonna be different.' I just, you know, I go with what's in my heart. And it's a really good feeling when you go against the grain and I wish more people would do it."
"I love to sing. All through my life. As worthless as you can feel when you're younger, and as pointless and as small, I always loved to sing - and I knew I was good at it."

pink_kicks_my_ass: u r WAAAAAAAAY 2 obsessed!! | the_anarchist | | i hate rock, i hate pop, i like metal, but pink isnt 2 bad, not as bad as gc and avril, at least she doesnt try to be shit she isnt... | icepickmetal | | no shit | the_anarchist | | sherlock. | icepickmetal | | I have to dissagree i like her better now! before she was good but i like pop punk music so i found that her songs were boring except for a few of them! | benjroxmysox27 | | She changed because the R&B wasn't who she is. That was the manufactured her. The her that wanted a record deal so she would bend a little to accommodate that. But with her second album, M!ssundaztood, she was tired of being someone she wasn't, so she was trying to prove who she really was. She went against what everyone said, and she didn't care if they let her out of her record contract because of it. She would have been happy because she had refused to be anyones puppet anymore... Now with Try This, she didn't have to prove to anyone who she was. Everyone now knows that she's an amazing song writer and lyricist, and that whatever she does it'll be good... She had more freedom with this album, so she took the opportunity to show more of who she really is. | PortraitOfPink |
I am still partial to Pink's second album. I like "Try This" OK and maybe will even grow to like it more over time, but I still think her best work so far is on "Missundaztood". | GrayBeard | | most definately | me_myself_and_i | I agree. But no matter what she decides to sing.I still think she is awesome. | mysticroseforever | Rock PINK is brill she changed cuz it wasn't her wiv the r'n'b so rock on!! | LIL-J | I like the old and new Pink. Pink should do what ever sounds goood to her. I can't wait till the new album is released. | ZeroOrDie | I like her single "Stupid Girl". | totaltomboy | The Video to stupid girls is really good too X | PinkSLockin | | she's really outspoken huh.. i love it! | damn-freak05 | it wasnt so long ago I saying to my mate that Pink seems to have disappeared off the music scene, then all of a sudden she comes back with this cracker, I knew thats what I'd forgotten to do up the town, look for her new album, if anyone has it, is it any good...? | PinkSLockin | i'll answer myself, picked up a copy of the new album this afternoon and its very good she just gets better and better... | PinkSLockin |
Yeah, I too couldn't figure out what happened to Pink for the last year or so, then suddenly BAM a new album!
I picked it up right away and totally fell in love with it, especially the wack at Bush in "Mr. President". | GrayBeard | omg waaaaat the new pink or real pink wateva is sooooo much better!!!!! she was amazin as an r n b artist so i luv all her songs n atm i luv them lots haha xxx | carpe_diem | Actually the R n B thing is what her record company wanted her to be the "new" Pink is really her. | totaltomboy | Yeah, the more I listen to the new cd the more I like Pink's new style. I really really like the other Pink cds, but this one I think tops them all.
But I can't understand why the label hasn't launched a bunch of singles from the album. There are a whole slew of songs that would make for great videos. | GrayBeard | I defidently like the new Pink better. Its better to be who you really are then someone that your not. | CollisionOfYourKiss | I seriously like her r&b style better than the whole rock phase, well, it's mostly cause I hate rock! >:) | AzN_HiPhOp_bOi | | | |
