The Pocket is a distinctly original band that combines alternative rock with authentic reggae roots. This combination creates an international sound for today's selective audience. Incredible vocals, memorable lyrics and an infectious stage energy always leaves listeners wanting more. While currently ending a tour through Europe, for the last two years, they have been touring the US and Jamaica. They were seen performing main stage at the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival since 2005 with music icons Roberta Flack, Third World and Nora Jones. The Pocket returned to the same stage in January 2007.
Lead vocalist, Omar Teitelbaum, brings extraordinary talent and unmistakable character to both the stage and the studio. Originally from Jamaica, lead guitarist Terrence Brown, musically guides the group with his insightful presence and positive vibrations; a seasoned musician he brings a cross-over style of percussive guitar. Matt "Wonderboy" Wood, both keyboardist and rapper extraordinaire, fits into the groove perfectly; along with dynamic 'lock it in the pocket' drummer, Solomon Ekwukoma, originally from Nigeria is comfortable playing in any genre. His influences are Latin jazz, afro-pop, funk, and reggae. With a thick bass, a soulful saxophone and sultry background singers the band's tapestry of unique sound is woven.
The Pocket's lengthy time together as a working band has produced a tight-knit live performance ensemble; with a sound for todays diverse audience. This is proven by their growing fan base and support of national and international artists.
The Pocket has stirred up a firestorm of excitement. It's in the live performance that the band really ignites. Seeing the band in concert is no passive listening experience, as audiences usually dance, chat and party along with the music. With this much fire snaking through the audience it is certain the night will be steamy.
