John Tyler is a Song Writer,Studio Engineer and Master Guitarist!
Growing up in Tampa Florida,He got his first guitar in 1967 at the age of 12.Picked up a few tips from from his sisters boyfriend on finger picking and chord structure and from there became a self taught guitarist. He liked Jose Feliciano and Mason Williams, and Learned Classical Gas (a very difficult instrumental) in his 2nd year playing guitar.
In 1968 he joined the Jr.Highschool chorus and began learning to read music and began to study classical music.
In 1969 a good friend brought a portable phonogragh to school with an LP album ,"Led Zepellin 2".He heard that guitarist (Jimmy Page) and spent lots of hrs learning everything he could from him.It was quite a departure from the folk styles of Peter Paul and Mary and the pop sound of the Beatles to the heavy metal of Led Zepellin.
He hooked up with a drummer in highschool and got a feel for jamming but never really went anywhere musically. He stayed in the chorus throughout highschool and also took night courses in Classical Music and Music Theory at the University of South Florida.
After graduating highschool,He left Florida at 17 years old for Atlanta Georgia and found out about Southern Rock!
This was a new style and required a Glass bottle to play slide guitar,But always liking a challenge,he became a pretty fair slide player.
In 1975,he moved back to Tampa sporting a Gold Top,Les Paul and a 100watt Super lead Marshall amp. This was before preamp over drive and the Marshall was an uncontrollable beast. No one could jam with him because it was too loud,so he traded it for a Fender Dual Showman (Big Mistake) but at least he could work with other people.
In 1977 he ran into the drummer for a band called "Shotgun" and auditioned for the band. They were impressed and hired him on the spot. This was the first serious band for him and he had to adjust to long hrs of rehearsals and constant tweaking of his style to accurately play a long list of songs that he was not familiar with. The band broke up after the first gig!
He quickly started a new band "BackStage Smoke" with the drummer from Shotgun and within about 6 weeks had a really smokin' show together. They made enough money that he gave up his day job and made a living off rock music.
The band broke up after about six months, and he didn't play in any bands for a long time.
In 1993 he moved to Las Vegas and worked in trucking for about 10 years.During that time he built a small studio and bought enough equipment for a rock band including Drums,PA system,Recording gear,a 5150,a 50watt Marshall and a bunch of Gibson Guitars!
Now he works 8 months per year and spends 4 months in the studio working with various Artist and is known for his lightning fast, buttery smooth style.
He has 23 copyrights on file and will be recording a new album this summer.I Like: Motorcylces,Guns and Electric Guitars |
