Five years after breaking up as a house party band, Quandry was reborn in March of 2004. Working quickly to expand their music and local following, they broke into the energetic Portland music scene with the release of their debut five-track EP "Penumbra". Soon their high energy and unforgettable performances spread the name Quandry throughout the entire Willamette Valley and the Northwest.
Playing at ever-bigger venues to an audience that is constantly growing, Quandry now regularly appears at spots such as: the Hawthorne Theatre, the WOW Hall, Rock N Roll Pizza, and headlines at the Roseland Theatre. Their reach outside the Portland area is also expanding to include regular gigs in Bend, Seattle, and even a recent spot opening for Floater at the Platinum in Corvallis.
On August 10, 2007, Quandry held a CD-release party for their sophomore effort: “Five Senses of Phantasm” at the Aladdin Theatre in Portland. The show was a great success, having aired on major radio stations and selling over 100 copies of the new EP.
“Five Senses of Phantasm” shows just how much the band has grown. Their sound fuses rock, metal, funk, prog, middle-eastern chord progressions and African rhythms. One moment they are lilting on a delicate piano interlude, the next moment crashing down on daring harmonies, heated vocals, and powerful, immaculate drum work.
But the true test is in the live show. Says Cheryl Ault of Crave Magazine: “They owned the stage…terribly cool, totally controlled perfection.” |
