| Red Cassette kinda happened by accident. Consisting of just one member, it basically came about after the band Andrew was previously in split up in 2001. Since that point he also tried to start a new band with a fellow member of the afore mentioned band. Unfortunately due to the frequent problem of commitment phobia the band never gigged, although they did record a demo that no-one ever heard apart from the members. Anyway, we digress. The point being Andrew felt the only person who knew exactly what he wanted to do in terms of writing music was himself! (also there is the bonus of no arguments! what he likes goes in!). Self producing and recording is also a bonus of working alone. He records everything through a tiny internal mic on his Mac, and is therefore pretty Lo-Fi. Subsequently, the music Andrew makes as Red Cassette is quite personal and very honest, but he doesn't take himself too seriously either. Influences include Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Beatles to name the obvious! and other artists such as Rogue Wave, The Shins, Devendra Banhart and the list goes on and on....
So, now whilst studying Music Composition at university all he does and wants to do is make music. Due to the honest nature of his music he has only now found the 'guts' to put his music into the public space via this website and this website only. His philosophy behind his approach is that without people hearing his music it cannot be mutated in anyway by the opinion of others. This basically means the music is purely for himself and no-one else. But now he has decided to put it out there and see if anyone else likes the music Andrew makes for himself. If this doesn't make any sense don't worry, try listening to a track, and if you don't like it, forget you ever listened to it. Thats the beauty of honest music. You either love it or hate it. Pick it up or leave it. Embrace it or ignore it. Red Cassette. |
