Even though its close, I think this is my favourite Incubus album. "Make Yourself" is a masterpiece too but I can really relate to this album. It's quite rappy at times but when I say that, you probably think Limp Bizkit but it's much better than that. Unlike Limp Bizkit, Incubus has a lot of depth from the outstanding DJ, the wonderful guitar riffs, the drumming and the fantastic singing of Boyd. Check it out if your an Incubus fan because it is often regarded as their best album.

1. Redefine: This is my favorite track on the album, sweet DJ, awesome guitar and a positive message. Check it out. 10/10
2. Vitamin: This is another really sic track, great theme or message and it has the bongo drums! 10/10
3. New Skin: This song is definitly another one of the best songs in fact my 3rd favourite on the album, also probably the hardest. The chorus is a sign of things to come from them. 10/10
4. Idiot Box: Yet again, keeping the trend going with another really awesome track. 10/10
5. Glass: Still a good song but not as good as some of the others, but I would give it a listen. 8/10
6. Magic Medicine: This is a great drug song, absolutly hilarious and trippy. n/a
7. A Certain Shade of Green: This is another solid track on the album, I'm pretty sure it's another song about drugs. 9.5/10
8. Favorite Things: This is tied for my second favourite song on the album, I like it so much because I can relate so damn well to it. It's about all the criticism he's received from his parents or whoever about drugs. Really awesome message, just telling people to open their minds. 10/10
9. Summer Romance(Anti-Gravity Love Song): For whatever reason this is my least favourite song on the album, Boyd is not using his voice too well here. 7/10
10. Nebula: This is a really cool trippy song. Not too much more to be said. 9/10
11. Deep Inside: I'm not a fan of the song's versus but the chorus is cool and somewhat makes up for it. 9/10
12. Calgone: This is tied for my second favourite track on the album. It just makes you feel good. It's hard, fast, strong and just so fucking wicked. Now that's the actual song, then we have some secret stuff going on at the end. This guy giving an autopsy report, then this hilarious spoof on the Karate Kid then finally in these wierd trippy voices, they're singing the word Incubus over and over. So obviously they were high when recording that last song, so awesome. 10/10

So yes, the cd is awesome. I get to see Incubus in July/04, i cannot wait!!!!

A good album, but there is still room for improvement. While the press and critics jumped over the sounds of Korn, Rage Against the Machine, and Limp Bizkit, Incubus quietly toured in support of S.C.I.E.N.C.E., their first major-label LP. Incubus' hip-hop influences come from their DJ and bassist instead of their singer. Brandon Boyd's vocals hit every range from quiet whispers to funk-styled rants to hard rock screams. He also adds percussion with a bongo on a few songs (and in concert its a strange sight for such a heavy band). Boyd's demeanor in concert and record is laid back and free flowing. There's no anger surrounding his lyrics or his singing. "New Skin" adds a lot of funk to modern heavy metal while "Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)" is a spacy dance ballad. The numerous styles on the album don't always blend perfectly, but they create a solid sound that defines the band. Incubus also manages to make their songs upbeat and danceable as well as tunes to headbang to. An admirable feat in a genre that tends to reward decibel levels instead of quality.

One of my favorite Incubus albums. This was the album right before Incubus made the transition from alternative-metal to alternative-rock. So fans of the more hardcore Incubus are fans of basically this album in all of its entirety. The album is good, Incubus wasn't like the modern alternative bands at the time when Limp Bizkit and Korn were becoming more and more popular with the media. Incubus quietly went on tour to support this album, and quietly crept their way through making another excellent album. "Idiot Box" and "Calogne" are two notable tracks. Both making the album worth it alone...

This album is great the first cd i had by Incubus was "A Crow Left of The Murder" which was not great. "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." was easily my favorite album by them i could not believe how good it was. Its a very upbeat and fun album to listen to at times its very fast with great beats and fun tunes. My two favorite songs on the CD that stood out were "Redefine" and "Summer Romance". I gave the CD a 4 because i would recommend this CD to anyone.

this album by incubus in 1997 is the essential incubus album to have with tracks such as vitamin making it into the hit film 'final destination 2' and the amazing nebula which is by far the best track in incubus's history. i particularly love this album due to its depth and content..its produced by tim wirt and mixed by terry date. the only let down to this album is deep inside with its lack of excitment than all other 11 tracks.buy this album if u want to go on a mind trip...its the perfect stoner's album.

If you're only familiar with Incubus's recent work, and haven't yet heard this album, then you're in for a total shock. This Incubus was a much different one. While they've recently moved to a more catchy and accessible (but still great) sound, they were once a much heavier and more experimental band. "SCIENCE" is probably the best and most creative thing they've ever done. The music has a very heavily funk-influenced style, similar to early Chili Peppers and Faith No More. However, their sound was still very distinctive and unique.

Frontman Brandon Boyd puts on what is easily his best performance to date. His quality melodic voice is still there, but his performance overall is more aggressive and eclectic. He effortlessly toggles between singing, rapping, and screaming, and always keeps it interesting. The musicians all put on fine performances, particularly Dirk Lance and Jose Pasillas, who stand out much more here than on later releases. Lance is a super-funky bassist, who can drive the song with power and groove, and Pasillas is an extremely dexterous and versatile drummer, who can combine many different styles with precision and finesse. Mike Einziger is an extremely creative and talented guitarist, excelling in both metal and funk styles. And, the mighty scratches of DJ Lyte give a bit of a hip hop flavor, which melds well with their brand of metallic funk.

The album is full of diversity, and fun twists and turns. "Redefine", "New Skin", and "A Certain Shade of Green" are hard-hitting funk-metal, with catchy melodic choruses to balance things out. "Vitamin" is kind of a straight-ahead hard rocker, with a wacky instrumental breakdown to shake things up. "Glass" features a jangly Primus-like bassline, mixed with a crushing guitar riff on the chorus. "Idiot Box" is sort of a slow funky groove, with some pretty wicked time changes. "Nebula" and "Calgone" are pure insanity, with some very jazzy drum work, and a lot of weird rhythms and time changes. "Deep Inside" moves back and forth between a funk/hip hop groove, and crushing metal, with a really cool bluesy guitar solo. "Magic Medicine" is sort of an instrumental, with some interesting drum beats superimposing some weird dialogue samples. The highlight of the album comes with "Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)", the ballad of the album. This song is basically straight-up oldschool soul/funk, complete with Temptations-like backup vocals on the chorus, and a nifty saxophone solo. Definitely one of the coolest songs they've done. Great feel to it, too. Really puts one in the mind of meeting up with a cool chick on a hot summer night.
