| Rising Conviction is a hard rock band from Phoenix, Arizona. Founded in early 2000, and touring steadily ever since, Rising Conviction is quickly building a strong and devoted fan base around the world.
Rising Conviction's music is an experiment in contrast. It could find a home in the Hard Rock or Indie Hardcore genres, drawing influence from Metal and Punk. The music is built upon strong and straight forward beats and powerful transitions.
The band’s presence is formed as Floyd Orfield, bassist, lays down a solid rhythm like such developed musicans as Tim Coltrane of Rage Against the Machine and Justin Chancellor of Tool. Andy LaFave carries Rising Conviction’s powerful, forward-moving drive with straight forward beats designed to be remembered. The melodic yet mechanical sound of guitarist Bryan Hughes’ innovative noise-based style never seems to stop amazing listeners. Whether he is striking a clever chord, singing backup vocals, or resonating the guitar’s neck with his own there is never a dull moment or sound. A guitar style inspired by artists such as Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, Adam Jones of Tool, and Robert Patrick of Filter. The lead vocals by Dave Kranson are not soon forgotten. His eccentric growls and spasmatic approach to singing is compared to such sing-speak vocalists as Spencer Moody of The Murder City Devils, Matthew Olyphant of Fetish, and Billy Idol. The combination of aggressive punk and intelligent rock, combined with a nearly intimidating stage-presence make a delicious consonance.
Rising Conviction could be compared to popular artists such as System of a Down, Tool, and Rollins Band.
In 1998, David Kranson and Andy LaFave met as co-workers. The two worked as part of a Phoenix concert security group, and often found themselves sitting behind the barricades talking about the one constant surrounding them in their work ... music.
A few months Kranson and LaFave were jamming wherever they could find a willing living room and semi-tolerant neighbors. Word of mouth brought a steady stream of musicians who showed up to have a few beers and try something new. These included Guitarist Bryan Hughes and Bassist Floyd Orfield. Logistics eventually saw an end to the bi-weekly event, and the group went their separate ways.
In late 2000, David ran into Bryan in a video store , and suggested that perhaps it was time to try and make something of the foundations laid in the last year.
Rising Conviction began writing in late 2000, and performed for the first time in April of 2001.
Rising Conviction has played in most popular Phoenix clubs which feature live music, including the Bash on Ash, The Hard Rock Cafe, Boston's, Cooperstown, The Mason Jar, The Cajun House (now the venue of Scottsdale), Static, The Big Fish Pub, and dozens of others, as well as feature events such as the New Times Music Showcase and PAPPAS Fest 2003 and 2004.
