Rising Vacancy, was formed in the summer of 2005 by Ryan Geil (guitar, composing), and Kevin Simsick (percussion, vocals). The two met by chance at a party, and shared common interests in music, and decided to start collaborating on musical ideas. Ryan called up Nick Hunter (bass, screaming) who was a former bass player for his old band, and asked him to come out and join the two for some jam sessions. Nick was enthusiastic about the idea, and decided that he wanted to get started up in the band scene again. For the rest of the summer the three began working on their music for the new formed band, Rising Vacancy, in hopes to become established in the Southwest Michigan area.
The Trio realized that they would need more than just three members to get the sound they were looking for so they began their search for a second guitarist. After many auditions, no one could fit the spot, or had the personality that the group was looking for. That was until Matt Budner (lead guitar), responded to a want ad posted on Myspace by, Ryan. Ryan and Matt talked back and forth through the site for a few weeks and eventually got a jam session arranged to audition Matt. As expected Matt was exactly what, Rising Vacancy, was looking for, bringing in a classical metal, and progressive sound to the bands music.
Now that the bands core structure had been formed they were ready to begin playing shows, and decided to jump right into the mix of things by playing at the, Gull Lake Grad Bash Fundraiser, which had been set up by other more established bands at the time. The show couldnt have been better, as Rising Vacancys, post hardcore, yet melodic music was performed to perfection at the show. Great crowd response was recieved, as it was quite noticeable that the music was different, and didnt follow the verse-chorus-verse structure that most music ballads are written to. After playing a few more shows, Rising Vacancy, realized that they were still missing something and went on search for a lead singer, a frontman.
Once again Myspace proved pivotal finding the fontman, Travis Borsma (lead vocals, keys, synth) who fit the spot well. Travis was charismatic and added another dimension to the band, having good drive, and a willing to try anything attitude.
Shortly after the addition of Travis, the band worked out recording their first EP with Plastic Room Studios, which was based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. After the completion of the EP the band seemed to be set.
Unfortunately Travis left the band shortly after completing the EP, and now they needed another vocalist and that is when Jeremy (lead vocals) came into the picture, who had recently helped them record their EP. Still Rising Vacancy was looking for someone to fill the sound. Dustin (keys, screams) was a homeless boy who came off the streets of Western, Michigan, and he had a keyboard so they asked "do you want to play keys for Rising Vacancy" and he said "yes."
The End, for now.
