Back in 2003, I wrote my first rap song, called "Office Rap Part 1" after being suspended in school for skipping a day. Since then, it's been on. I was drawn to rap after hearing Eminem's "Lose Yourself" on the Portland Maine radio station Q97.9. A few weeks later, I watched 8 Mile for the first time at my friend Chuckie's house. I got my hands on a copy of "The Eminem Show", and started writing songs all the time. I would always go down in the basement of the apartment that I shared with my two brothers and grandmother in Lewiston Maine, put in an Eminem album, plug in my headphones, and go through the motions that I saw Eminem do in the music videos. My older brother got Tupac's "Me Against The World" casette tape from his friend Ray, and I loved every track. The way Tupac rapped, the beats to the songs...everything.
Now, six years later, writing songs and producing instrumentals are both part of my day to day life. And it all started with a new song I heard on the radio. |
