Robert Gifford is one of the true original Country Singer/Songwriters. His career spans the course of over five decades. His ability to "tell a story", in song form, is superior. His songs stem, from life experiences, over his 70+ years of living life.
The style, in which he writes, is truly "real country". "Real Country" seems to be a vanishing art form. For those that grew up listening, to real original country music, hearing Robert should be a pleasant experience. One can be taken back, to a simpler time, by listening to Robert's songs.
Robert cut his teeth, on Music Row, in Nashville, TN. Back in the 1960's he was writing, in the old "song writing houses", with several of his friends. Robert has had many friends, in the industry like Curly Putnam (Green Green Grass of Home), Harlen Howard (another legend in country music) and even Kris Kristopherson. Robert even met Elvis, in the old days... before the Elvis explosion!
In 2007, Robert entered Sony Tree Publishing, on Music Row, with his friend "Donster". Robert was met with a "Well I'll be it's Robert E Gifford!!", by the receptionist, Judy, who had been working there for over 30 years!! Nice to be remembered. True friends just never forget their real friends.
When Robert and his friend, Donster, made this trip to Nashville he had new material he was trying to market. Robert and Donster met Harry Warner. Harry was an artist rep, at BMI. He was also the former President of Vector Records.. Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed's old label. Harry reviewed several of Robert's songs. Harry was very complimentary. He loved the songs. However, the fact that Robert writes "real country" was something Harry considered. How could he help Robert?
According to Harry, it seemed that Nashville did not record "real country" anymore. After searching his contacts, Harry did refer Robert to meet, with an A&R Rep, at Broken Bow/Mustang Records. (This was Jason Aldean's label that produced the "Hicks Town" CD. It had reached number one, in the country charts in 2007. The first time an independent label had accomplished that feat) What a compliment for Robert! Contacts and friends were made.
Robert use to tour with the Hank Williams All Star Country Road Show, headed up by Hank William's wife. Robert also ran "The Loft" at Panther Hall, in Ft. Worth. Musicians, such as Willie Nelson to name one, use to ask for Robert's permission to get up and play for others.
Robert performs locally, in Ft. Worth, and the surrounding area. Robert's son Mike also performs, and records, with him. "Donster" has also had a part, in helping Robert, in the studio, by recording and playing several parts on several songs.
Recently, in March 2009, the Ft. Worth Star Telegram did a feature article, about Robert E Gifford, in its musical review section. It was a great article about his performance, songs, and crowd appreciation.
Robert has a list of over 400 original songs he has written and performed. He is a song writing factory. It is an honor, to help him get his music out, to the world, so his music can be heard. His timeless music will soon be available, to purchase, here on his new isound site.
