Pestering his parents to buy him a piano before he was even four years old, music has always been the driving force in Robin’s life. His restless spirit drove him to experiment with different instruments – settling eventually with keyboards, drums and percussion. He searched for influences from genres as diverse as classical to rock, from funk to R&B and hip hop and even House music. His current material reflects those early influences.
The discord in Robin’s soul sought relief in music and performing but in the dark periods of his youth these didn’t provide the stimulation and satisfaction that he craved and on occasion he drifted to the wrong side of the tracks. Fortunately, his need and his passion for rhythm yanked him back on track. Seldom satisfied with the results of his endeavours, Robin set ever higher goals for himself. Leaving college with distinction as a sound engineer enabled him to venture into production and involving himself in other people’s work has proved an outlet for the excess energy.
Only content when surrounded by others as committed as him, Robin’s boundless nervous energy makes it possible for him to juggle multiple projects – often producing other artists’ work in his studio, composing his own material and occasionally still scratching on the decks as a DJ and all within 24 hours.
Robin is currently in the process of completing his debut album which is an eclectic mix of songs that reflect the pain and the passion that has inspired him such as ‘I’ll make you fly’ which has edgy vocals driven by rock overtones and dreamy Lead synths; ‘Stop!’ a smooth R&B song; ‘I can’t have it’ A head-nodding, foot-tapping, finger-snapping, hand-clapping song that anyone listening, can’t fail to move to.
Many of the lyrics, drawn sincerely from bittersweet personal experience, are concerned with relationships, whether up close and personal or viewed wistfully from a distance in retrospect.
Robin continues to write and compose, produce and to dance. He feels that he is only now just beginning the ‘journey’ to his chosen destination – of making music that he hopes his listeners will relate to, will find depth and enjoyment in and that will reach out and touch their souls.
