Savage Garden is a pop band from Brisbane, Queensland-AUSTRALIA, and is made up mainly of singer Darren Hayes, and guitar player Daniel Jones.
Darren Hayes was born in Brisbane in 1973, and has been interested in show business since he was able to talk. 27 year old Darren Hayes is now one of the most acknowledged singers in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. He is trained professionally to sing opera, and writes all of Savage Garden's lyrics and melodies on both of their released albums and singles.
Daniel Jones is a 26 year old musician who was born in Essex, England in 1974, and then moved to Brisbane when he was one year old. Daniel Jones plays the electric guitar, standard guitar, keyboard, synthesizers, and does the electronic programming of the music of Savage Garden along with their producer, Walter Alsenheiff.
Savage Garden was formed in 1994, when Daniel was in a band called Red Edge in Brisbane. Daniel had put out an ad in a local music magazine looking for a lead singer for the band. Darren Hayes was the last of 20 to audition and his voice split, and he was off key during most of the song, but Daniel saw past that and their personalities clicked. Darren was a memeber of the band. Darren and Daniel broke off of that and formed their own career writing original pop songs, and sending them around the world to be played on radio stations, while sharing a flat in Brisbane. they waited endlessy for phone calls from record companies and radio stations agreeing to sign them. They heard nothing until one day, in 1996, a radio station called from Texas, and they agreed to meet with an agent from Columbia Records, and were signed in 1997, when their first, self-titled album came out in the U.S. and 1998 in Australia. Their first hit was a song called "I Want You", followed by the smash hit, "To the Moon and Back". Darren and Daniel have just released their second album as of 1999, entitled "Affirmation", and introduced their first single "I Knew I Loved You".
The other members of the band include: saprano backing singer, Anna, and their alto and tenner backing singer, Angie. Lead guitar includes Ben Carey, and drummer, Jake Frasier.
Darren Hayes influences include many of the 80's pop artists like: Prince, Michael Jackson, Paula Abdul, Madonna, and many other popular artists. Daniel Jones' influeneces include more of independent oriented bands such as Silverchair, and many unheard of. You can often hear a little bit of the 80's in many of their songs on their most acclaimed album, "Affirmation", which has sold more than 5 million copies of it in their first 2 months of release.
Darren and Daniel are now Australia's most successful band and one of the few that write and produce all of their music. They have many supportive fans from all over the world, and have just finished the most successful tour of the summer, the "Affirmation World Tour".
