Biography

The quite Ramones inspred band Screeching Weasel was formed in Chicago in 1986 by Ben Foster (Ben Weasel). The first lineup of Screeching Weasel consisted of guitarist John Jughead, drummer Steve Cheese, and bass player Vinnie Bovine. One year after their formation, Screeching Weasel released their self-titled debut album for Underdog Records, but they only pressed 3,000 copies originally. Bovine's many personal problems got him booted from the band, and Warren Ozzfish replaced him. After playing a few shows around California, Screeching Weasel joined the label Roadkill and released the 36 song album BoogadaBoogadaBoogada in 1989. Cheese left following the release of the album and was replaced by Brian Vermin. Following their next tour Warren left and was replaced by Danny Vapid. Following the release of various singles and eps Vapid and Vermin left to form the band Sludgeworth; Weasel and Jughead called it quits and broke up the band. Screeching Weasel re-formed after a reunion show with the new lineup of Weasel, Jughead, Naked, Vapid and new drummer Dan Panic. Lookout1 records signed the band and agreed to release the next album "My Brain Hurts" in 1991. Following their next tour Naked left and was replaced first by Gub, then John Personality, and finally Vapid who switched back to Bass to record the 1992 album "Wiggle". Next the band recorded their vinyl only version of the Ramones first album and titled it"Beat is on the Brat" which is now long out of print. In 1993 the band released what many think their best album "Anthem for a new Tomorrow". Vapid left and the band split up the following year, but not before releasing the 1994 album "How to make Enemies and Irritate People" with Greenday's Mike Dirnt filling in on Bass. After the breakup, Vapid, Weasel and Panic ended up in a new band called the Riverdales(named after the town the band originated in). Lookout! released a collection of outtakes, live performances and rarities in 1995 entitled "Kill the Musicians" and soon convinced the band to revert to the better known Screeching Weasel with the addition of Jughead once again. The band released the album "Bark like a Dog" in 1996 on Fat Wreck Chords, but soon split because of consistant legal problems. A tour was cancelled at the last minute, but in 1998 they struck again with the album "Television City Dreams" and again in 1999 with the album "Emo". Another rarities collection ("Thank you very Little") and the album "Teen Punks in Heat" were released a year later.
