Side Seat Driver is an exciting band about to burst onto the scene in a big way. Based in Atlanta, Side Seat Driver is something of an enigma in comparison to others in their genre. One description of the band is "Seattle meets Sabbath" with shades of acts like Clutch and Rush being evident. Heavy grinding riffs, explosive guitar work and dynamic stage performances make SSD a band to watch for.
Bassist and Vocalist, Tracy Towne formed Side Seat Driver with Guitarist Fran Mann in the summer of 2003. Tracy had moved to Atlanta from Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1997, but could not find the right people to create great rock music. In the search for others with a fresh new approach, Towne teamed up with Miami, Florida native Mann and began working on songs. After a short while it was evident that the pair had stumbled upon something very special. The next step was to assemble a top quality band, when they came upon Grant Dawson (from Youngstown, Ohio) who heard the early songs and wanted in. Grant is an outstanding drummer and brought extra special character to the band. His drumming complimented the sound of the band perfectly and his style added a certain “70’s Riff Rock” flow to the grungy sound.
After playing a number of shows the band felt that a recording was in order so in 2004 they released their first E.P. “Drive On”. Looking to play bigger venues for more people SSD Recorded their first full length album “Flow” in 2005 on Super Rock Records (the southern version of “SUB-POP”). This year holds two tours to support “Flow” (which is already turning heads in the states as well as Europe). With the line up complete, a definitely unique sound, and international distribution, Side Seat Driver is in the driver’s seat and looking to the exciting times that lay ahead.
