Making music is not easy.
It makes me feel bad for a person who disses
a band or artist because they don't relate
to or like their music. It is still a

perform it, and can impact so many other

A lot of ppl think bands like SP write songs
that focus on the emotions of teens, and that
is true all right, but those
"teenage" emotions don't go
away when you are no longer a teen.
The emotions you experience in your teens
impact you your whole life as I am sure you
know. It is totally amazing to me how ppl my
age (I am an old shit) still have the same
relationship with their parents and peers,
emotionally, as they did when they were in
their teens.
So actually, SP songs chronicle the emotions

For all of you who play instruments or sing
that is super. And if you write music that
is even greater.
But, and this is a BIG but, PERFORMING is a
whole different thing, and is the ultimate
expression of music. There is something
magic about bringing music to life in a
performance.
So while I can appreciate someone saying they
play an instrument better than someone in SP,
or sing better than them, or even write songs
better than them, it is not the same as
performing.
Bottom line to me is this: The BEST guitar
player, singer, or writer who doesn't
perform is not as much into music as the
WORSE guitar player, singer, or writer who
DOES perform.

SOADfreak makes a good point and has just
helped understand something about bands that
has bothered me for a long time.
I have always wondered why a band stays
together during the hard years when they are
trying to get discovered, then they get
successful and in just a few short years,
they breakup, just when they are in the
possition to really get their music and
message out there.
But like SOADfreak points out, there comes a
time when the business end of the music rears
it's head, and that changes a lot of
stuff. So I guess some bands just never
learn to how to do the necessary
"business" stuff pushed on them
due to their success and continue with their
"art". So they quit or fall
apart.

Look at Angels and Airwaves. Do you think
he'll ever go back to a Blink sound. They
broke up because they had different views on
where their music should go and that's why
their last album was horrible. I'm sorry

I'm surprised that no one has made the
argument that music should not be about
making money, but about expression of self.
And honestly, I think either:
1) These guys exploit the feelings of young
teens to make money. They try to make these
kid's "problems" seem much
worse then they actually are. I have a young
cousin probably around the age of you simple
plan fans. I show him music such as Operation
Ivy and Defiance, Ohio. Two very different
bands with similar messages. And I feel he
now knows what really matters in this world,
and that there are worse things then your
parents not understanding you.
2) These guys really believe that these are
the biggest problems anyone can have in their
