| Born and raised in Brussels – Belgium, Skult grew up with the sounds of his parents vinyls. Among them much classic American soul as well as symphony. Child dreamer as he was, it's by listening to these past masters that he very quickly began to understand that the music enables him to escape, to reach dreams... and other kinds of realities… That he will try out later but his instinct always remained intact.
Throught out his childhood, Skult played any instrument that passed between his hands. Accordion, drums, flutes, harmonica and later his first keyboard. He played the melodies which he heard on the radio.
During adolescence, he turned to the hiphop of the early 90 's but is impassioned as much to discover other music and artists such as Jimi Hendrix, John Mclaughlin, Ravi Shankar, Cuban music, reggae and dub...
His interest in electronic music started by listening to techno and house famous at that time in Belgium. A little later he will look further into traditional Eastern music as well as Indian music which he immediately fell in love with the deep feelings of truth and purity within the sounds … Music had a soul…
After a difficult period of his existance and in full transition towards adulthood, Skult was not satisfied to accept the traditional framework of society … He will want to discover some of advantages of the real inner and outer worlds that surround us. Thus he will make mystical experiments thanks to certain natural psychotropic substances. The music will evolve closely related to these enriching experiments by listening to trip-hop, jungle, breakbeat, psychadelic mix of diverse influences. He listened to more and more ethnic music from different horizons, different tribes.. Skult is attracted to all these different forms of music because most of them aren’t produced for a commercial goal but for a total different aim. Divination, tradition, rituals,…
Later, his love and passion for music will lead him towards a job as a sound engineer working in his district. He was instantly impassioned at once for the techniques within the studio. In parallel, he will take courses of assistant in production at an independant school. After two years of experiments in the studio, he finally decided to establish his own home studio to try and mix out his ideas.
During this time , Skult will become acquainted with one of his Turkish cousins living in France who was also impassioned like him for music. Together they will share their knowledge and experiments... His cousin introduced him to the richness of Turkish music through the traditional instruments, he was also at this time introduced to a large range of 60 - 70's psychadelic music.
Since, his appetite for production did not cease growing Skult began developing a more open form of music, homogeneous… A music like him. Skult collected the fruits of these experiments to present to various labels. CCT records were the first label to show serious interest in him, initially by Jash one of their artists.
Skult signed 11 tracks which represent this time of total experimentation of styles, influences, experiments to deliver his first album as a mix of dub and jazz in a moving downtempo, breakbeat experimental style. Then moving to the psychadelic mind with
ethnic flavour and finishing in a completely mystical experiment where trans and breakbeat are mixed in an orgy of eclectic and organic sounds. |
