They were brought together 9 years ago in San Jose California. A former rapper from F.O.S. named Steve Harwell became a vocalist, and he and his drummer friend would go wild making up a bunch of heavy and funny songs. Steve's manager introduced him to Greg camp, guitarist, and Paul De Lisle, bassist. The four made two demos and their songs eventually were able to be played on the radio. Smash Mouth's songs were so good, they got to play a summer festival with No Doubt, and Beck. Smash Mouth then began recording an album. When the recording was done, Smash Mouth signed with Interscope records, and they released the first single entitled Walkin' on the sun, which is still today remembered for its amazing and awesome tune. Smash Mouth released the full-length album Fush Yu Mang in 1997. Smash Mouth began to change their sound from the hard rock sound, to the more poppy sound so more people would listen to them. In 1999 they released the first of their alternative pop albums entitled Astro-lounge. Astro-lounge's singles also got Smash Mouth to become very popular, especially the song All-star. Smash mouth went on a long 2 year tour after Astro-lounge was released. When they got back, they began to record the self-titled album. The self-titled album was released in 2001 and it featured singles like the remake of I'm a Believer, and Pacific Coast Party. After another long tour, Smash Mouth began recording their fourth album entitled Get the Picture? Get the picture was released in 2003 and had a few more singles like You Are My Number One, or Hang on. In conclusion,
Smash Mouth has always been a successful band, and probably always will be.
