| Sri Chinmoy originally from India moved to New York in 1964. Sri Chinmoy is an internationally acclaimed musician, poet and writer. Since moving to the West he has composed over 17,000 songs becoming one of the most prolific composers of spiritual music. Sri Chinmoy has also performed more than 700 concerts of meditative music at different locations, including concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera house. Typically Sri Chinmoy plays on a variety of instruments, his favourite ones including the flute Indian Esraj, and piano. When performing his compositions, Sri Chinmoy also frequently adds extemporaneous improvisations. He says when performing he uses the capacity of the heart and not the mind, Sri Chinmoy also says when music comes from the heart it becomes a universal language that bypasses the barriers of language and culture.
