The Starting line consists of Ken (singer, bass), Mike (guitar), Matt (guitar), and Tom (drums). The group, which is from Churchville, Pennsylvania, are in their late teens. The Starting Line began in 1999 when Matt wrote an e-mail to Ken. The e-mail said: “My name is Matt. I live about twenty minutes from you. I checked out your AOL profile. You like a lot of cool bands. I was wondering if you knew anyone who would be interested in singing for my band.” Luckily, Ken replied and the group began rehearsing and hanging out together. In the beginning, the boys called themselves Sunday drive. One month after they were created, the group signed to Line Records, a small independent label. They soon after signed to We The People records, a label based out of Southern California. They then had to change their name to The Starting Line because Sunday Drive was already taken. They then signed to Drive-Thru Records. In 2000, The Starting Line began touring with other indie bands. They then released their EP entitled With Hopes of Starting Over. The group released their debut album, Say It Like You Mean It, in 2002. The album has been out almost a year and has sold over 200,000 units. That is amazing considering the band has not had any mainstream media. They have received all their publicity solely over the Internet.
