Probably the most underated band of the punk movement, Stiff Little Fingers originlly formed in the english oppressed city of Belfast, Ireland by Jake Burns(lead vocals,Lead guitar), Henry Cluney(Backing vocals, Rhythm guitar), Ali McMordie(Bass,Backing vocals), and Brian Faloon(Drums) in 1978. Having no night life and the constant threat of violence and police brutality the people of Belfast stayed mainly in the areeas where they lived. This of course lead to the forming of Ireland's(and one of the whole movements) best punk band. An explosive band with fast, passionate, ferocious lyrics dealing with the harsh realities of growing up in a war torn, oppressed Northern Ireland, Stiff Little Fingers(named after a Vibrators song) burst on to the scene with the release of the badly recorded yet amazing album Inflammable Material. This album showcased numerous SLF masterpieces, but the two best are defineltey "Alternative Ulster" and "Suspect Device". Which are both songs about the harsh day to day life in Belfast. This album reached the top 40 in England making it the first independant album to ever do so. Soon after, SLF signed with major label Chrysalis and relesed three more albums (Nobody's Heroes, Go for It and Now Then);none of which were nearly as good as the first. After the release of the third album Jake called it quits and SLF were no more. The Breakup only lasted 5 years and the band reformed to release the horrible albums "Flags And Emblems", "Get A Life", and "Tinderbox". These albums were all far off from the original SLF style we loved on "Inflammable Material". The band is still together with an almost completley new lineup(Jake Burns, Bruce Foxton, Ian McCallum, and Steve Grantley) touring and working on new material, none of which will rival that of the "original" Stiff Little Fingers.
