Stolen Element is a four man ska–punk band with a sound similar to Sublime, 311, and NOFX. Formed in 1999, in Snowshoe, WV, the members include Shawn Owen (25-vocals, guitar), Bill Browning (25– guitar, vocals), Pat Cumashot (25– bass), and Andy Hall (25- drums, vocals). They are currently based out of Annapolis, MD.
Stolen Element really began a very long time ago. It was about 3rd grade when all four members met each other. Growing up together in rural West Virginia doesn’t offer a lot of options. Any spare time was spent playing music and snowboarding together. This is where they were first introduced to a wide variety of music, from punk rock to hip hop to reggae to classic rock to speed metal and on and on, which can all be heard as influences in Stolen Element’s sound .
After the guys all graduated high school, they moved to Morgantown, WV, home to the beloved Mountaineers! There they began to play relentlessly, 5-6 nights a week, building a real buzz in a college town of around 70,000 people. After recording a 9 song EP, manufacturing over 2000 copies, they began to tour the south central east coast promoting the album with no label support. Their tour paths now include venues in WV, VA, OH, PA, NC, SC, and MD, sharing the stage with nationally touring acts such as King Django, 2 Skinnee Jays, Can’t Hang, Power Movement Project, 69 Fingers and many more.
Stolen Element has since won 4 BOTB in four different regions, 2 of which included studio time used to record their first cd and another 3 song demo. They are currently batteling in Emergenza’s BOTB with finals held in Berlin, Germany. They have just moved on to the 2nd round in Baltimore, MD. They currently have street teams developing in many urban areas in their tour path. They use this and an extensive web presence, including profiles on MySpace.com, Interpunk.com, AmericanIdolUnderground.com, and many, many more, to build their fan base. They receive regular rotation on WCLG and U92 in Morgantown, WV.
They plan to re-enter the studio to record a full length lp at the end of this summer, set for release next March, starting with 1000 copies. At which time they will hit the road once again to tour and promote the new album, as well as their first one, through sticker, CD, and merchandise give-aways and sales. |
