Biography

"1 part whiskey and a splash of orange juice and sour mix." These are the words that spawned the explosive Molotov Cocktail band known as Stone Sour."We are melodic hard-rock with content and initiative," says Stone Sour/Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor. "Stone Sour allows me to execute the writing style that I love and can't necessarily do with Slipknot." Formed originally in Des Moines, Iowa in 1992 where the cynical band known as Slipknot was born it consisted of Corey Tatlor(vocalist)and Joel Ekman(drummer). A time period afterward longtime friend of Taylor's, Shawn Economaki(bass) became a welcome addition to the band's inception. With no predetermined route they performed in clubs with multitudes of different guitarists. A turing point came in 1995 when James Root(guitarist)came along, who also joined Slipknot a year after Taylor, had found a way to the band practice. That pecise moment signaled that the band's completion was now finished and for five years generated music with shear passion rather than comparing themselves with other bands and genres. 1997 was the demise for the band known as Stone Sour. Taylor and Root leaving to become a part of Slipknot along with Shawn who then became the stage manager for them. So it seemed that they no longer existed until 2000 when Josh Rand(guitarist), another friend of Taylor's, came forth to Corey showing him songs he had been working on. A year together they made the final act of completion filling the rest of the half full glass. Deciding on name for the band they eventually decided to keep the name Stone Sour staying true to its roots. With the band back together standing out it indicated one thing. Stone Sour was reborn. Taylor states, “The difference this time around is that we lost the fear of trying to compete with what is popular. We are going to stay true to the type of music that we want to make, and no matter who likes it or not, I am still secure that we have produced a great album.” The band now consists of Corey Taylor-Vocals/James Root-Guitar/Josh Rand-Guitar/Shawn Econonmaki-Bass/and Joel Ekmann-Drums

great band stone sour is a dam good band. i was suprised when i saw that they had 3 members of slipknot in the band, but still dont sound anything like slipknot. perhaps better than slipknot???	SOADfreak

Of they're better than Slipknot; no gimmicks; no pretences; just good old fashioned rock; great musicians, great music; quality songs. A band thats about the music not the money. Which means they're going to be successful for all the right reasons	simon67

Hell, yes, Stone Sour is better than Slipknot. Slipknot just screws all of their fans into believing that they should worship them, and it's sad, but some people do. I think Stone Sour is way more in depth and actually poetic, unlike Slipknot.	ToDieWithPleasure

Actually, they have 2 members of Slipknot in the permanent band, Sid just did a few DJ tracks for their self-titled album.	-47-
