THE STRAPS were formed late 1977,when vocalist JOCK STRAP met up with rythmn guitarist Dave Reeves,in a squat in Battersea south LONDON , although Jock had dabbled with the bass guitar in his native Glasgow he never thought for one second that he would front one of Londons biggest punk bands in the late seventies early eighties. After the tragic death of the first bassist GREEN,Stan Stammers joined the ranks along with Andy Forbes on lead and Cliff Gluebag on drums ,playing support to Stiff little Fingers at the Hammersmith odeon kick started their Punk antics. It wasnt untill Stan left for Theatre of hate,Andy to join The Wall and Cliff was sacked for selling his kit to buy glue that the band really took off with a British tour suporting The Damned, with three new members. Simon and Big John Werner guitar, and bass respectivly, and with the exellent drummer Jim Walker of Public Image LTD ,the band went from stregnth to stregnth releasing two 7" singles JUST CANT TAKE ANYMORE and BRIXTON.A belated debut album followed in 1982 with new recruit Pete Davis of The UK SUBS on drums. The Straps were an under rated, under paid band with bad management,so after a few more gigs Jock left to form Bartok with Simon, Jah Wobble and Rat Scabies of The Damned , a 12" single was released called Insanity , which climbed quite high in the UK indie chart reaching number 12.Jock decided to hang his mic up after a few projects to try and earn some real money for his family ,and big Dave did the same they both remained good friends , and reformed the band for a one off concert with Sham 69 ,UK Subs,The Vibrators,Lurkers and Chelsea 1992.Twelve years on they have reformed again only this time with a bang ,releasing a new CD with Captain OI called The Straps The Punk Collection , and playing the Wasted Festival 2005 in Morecambe UK , with new members Stuart Philips lead,Mark Hobbs bass and Lloyd Dudley on drums.Jock is currently working on a new solo project which will appear hear soon, along with details of his autobiography.
