The early 21st century saw Pantera singer Phil Anselmo launch several side projects, including Necrophagia, Viking Crown, Christ Inversion, Southern Isolation, and Superjoint Ritual. The group's consisted of Phil Anselmo (vocals), guitarists Jim Bower and Kevin Bond, drummer Joseph Fazzio, with none other than Hank Williams III on bass (a side note- Phil did vocals and bass duties for the band's recordings, but when they went to play live, he concentrated on the vocals). According to someone named bower, Superjoint Ritual, started to approach the writing and recording of their debut with "the perfect 15-year-old mentality of having everything loud, everything on 10, getting loaded, and letting whatever happens, happen." It was recorded in a rehearsal space, turned into a recording studio in Anselmo's backyard. The producer who did these sessions was none other than, former Ugly Kid Joe member Dave Fortman (who has turned into quite a producer of ultra heavy bands - Eyehategod, Soilent Green, etc.). In May of 2002, Superjoint released their first full-length album. Its entitled, Use Once and Destroy, an album that reflected such influences as Black Flag, Righteous Pigs, Celtic Frost, and Voivod, among others. Superjoint Ritual supported the album with a summer tour the same year. In 2003, Superjoint released their second full-length album, entitled A Lethal Dose of American Hatred. In the summer of 2004, they were on the monstrous Ozzfest tour. They were on the main stage (and might I add, it was amazing). They also released a dvd, entitled live at CBGBS. Phil Anselmo, has currently stepped out of the music business for a while. Why, because of the death of his best friend for seventeen years, Dimebag Darrell. Here's a quote I found in Revolver Magazine about what I stated above, "This is the last you'll be seeing of me for a long time, I hope you're happy heavy-metal music magazines."
