Sisters With Voices; better known as SWV are from the streets of Brooklyn, the Bronx, and New York,NY. The three talented sisters Coko (Cheryl Gamble), Taj (Tamara Johnson), and Lelee (Leanne Leyons) all shared the same pasion for music with their drive for fame. Created by well known producer Teddy Riley(Blackstreet),objective was to reflect streetwise dress and attitude. The three sisters sound was somewhat harder than that wich might be expected of these soft sweet voices. On their track down town they showed they had no problem in revealing intimate details about sex.
Their 1993 debut album had a good mixture of both rap and a cappella vocal stylings. From this album they had three massive crossover US hit singles, "I'm So Into You"(number 6),and chart-topping "Weak" and "Right Here/Human Nature" (number 2).
The trio was nominated for a Grammy in 1995 and they returned in 1996 with their album A New Beginning, and repeated the same formula from their last album to the next album in 1997 with Release Some Tension. With this album being more sexual, but too smooth for some people's taste in urban R&B.
The group broke up in 1998, with Coko releasing her solo debut the following year. There are talks of the group getting back together in 2004 for another try to regain their title.
