| Taxi Doll is the innovative band formed in 2004 whose musical popularity is rapidly growing among audiences hungry for a blend of traditional pop rock and cutting edge electronic music.
Named after the iconic bobble-head dolls often seen perched on the rear dash of taxicabs, the band draws its inspiration from such eclectic sources as Garbage, The Chemical Brothers and Blondie. The band has self-labeled the genre “Rocktronica," and according to producer and member Gregg Allen, “play edgy rock music that people can dance to.” Grassroots critics agree with online journo Michael Walls dubbing the vocals “ultra-sexy” and the band’s performances “crowd pleasing.” And it all results from a heady fusion of ideas, individuals, and ingredients that is electrifying both onstage and in the studio…
Ingredient One: Dhana, whose UK origins, classical and contemporary vocal training and multi-cultural background (including Spanish and German lineage) blend into a unique and compelling sound that coolly winds around notes like a freeway interchange at dawn. Her range and style allow her to be playful and sensual with her lyrics and performance. At the same time her voice resonates with heart-throbbing power that electrifies the kinetic energy of all listeners.
Ingredient Two: Gregg, whose musical savvy is combined with a marketing sensibility cultivated through years of experience at Astralwerks/Virgin, where he worked with the pioneers of dance music: Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers, The Basement Jaxx, and other groundbreaking talents. “Those projects changed everything for me,” he enthuses. “The sounds were bigger and more exciting than anything I’d ever heard before, and I could see the astounding impact it had on people.”
Ingredient Three: Jason, the seasoned LA drummer who’s played with a variety of bands in Los Angeles and performed nationally on tour. Jason’s credits include playing with artists such as Emerson Hart of Tonic; the award winning Indie band My Sister Amazing; Orange County’s Moisture -- appearing on Jimmy Iovine’s Farm Club USA Channel TV Show; and touring nationally with KCRW darling Supreme Beings of Leisure.
Ingredient Four: Guitar player and back-up singer, Tony, a veteran of the thriving LA and Orange County music scenes. He has been involved in many projects that have received national television exposure on shows such as "Dawson's Creek" and "Diagnosis Murder".
Ingredient Five: Bassist and back-up singer Randy, who has worked with an amazing variety of projects and players ranging from Brian Reeves (producer: U2, Rooney), to Kenny Love (Snoop Dog, Jay Z, Beyonce) and shared stages with groups such as Maroon 5, Five For Fighting and Jason Mraz.
History and Credits
Gregg and Dhana met through mutual producer friends who saw the potential synchronicity in the pairing of these two talents, each of whom is fueled by a desire and vision for creating a unique style of rock/dance. Immediately after the first song was written, the band was formed and the Taxi Doll vision was realized. Since they started the project, Greg and Dhana have placed songs with the WB Network’s TV show “Veronica Mars”, with MTV’s “Laguna Beach”, the Bravo Channel’s “Queer Eye For The Straight Girl”, and Miramax’s “Shall We Dance” and “The Aviator DVD.”
