I am proud to announce that I am currently rehearsing on drums in Tucson with the legendary rock guitarist Michael Bruce. As you may or may not know, Michael was the creative force in Alice Cooper (the band), playing guitar, keyboards, vocals, and writing such great classics as Be My Lover, I'm Eighteen, Is It My Body, Desperado, Under My Wheels, School's Out, Elected, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Billion Dollar Babies, Muscle Of Love, and many others.
I got into Alice Cooper when "Easy Action" came out in 1970. I played drums in a band with some buddies and was learning some of Neal Smith's amazing drumming. My all time favorite song to play would have to be "Billion Dollar Babies". We do "Halo Of Flies" which is fun to play also.
To all fans of Michael Bruce and the band Alice Cooper, I must say that Michael raises the bar and is an inspiration... and he's funny. His live performance is an inspiration to any rock band. Hearing the man behind that sound brings out the magic. In addition to Michael I also get to play with the incredible guitarist Bob Russell and bassist Steve Conklin. Javier Garcell on lead vocals.
The Michael Bruce Group is currently rehearsing in Tucson for a show next month in Phoenix, as well as making preparations for a possible new album with all new songs from Michael Bruce. Most recent shows included the very fine drumming of Robin Horn at"The Whiskey" in Hollywood,and Bob Allen at "Red Owl" in Tempe, and "Mardi Gras" in Scottsdale.

Taking Flight

Fifteen psychedelic, experimental, progressive, fusion, rock and ambient instrumentals.
From Aural Innovations #36 (May 2007) He says his music is psychedelic... It’s mostly a jazz/rock fusion sort of thing in the vein of Alan Holdsworth, Jan Hammer, Jean-Luc Ponty etc. Just listen to tracks like “My Watch”, “She Speaks” or “Seedz”. Terry’s other influences include Rundgren, Zappa and Jeff Beck, for example. I do enjoy his more ambient pieces, though, and some of them are a bit psychedelic. A good example is the peaceful and hypnotic “Logan Ran” that is actually very enjoyable as well as the mystical “Not Far”. There is also a bit heavier stuff in there with some electric guitar. The bit darker “April” reminds me of Space Mirrors and is quite okay. “Tax” features a heavy guitar riff, sequences and a great guitar solo by a guy named Jose Diaz. “Psycho” begins in a minimal mood and has some exciting synth stuff to create a bit psychedelic atmosphere. This track is an instrumental with a jazz feel. It is well layered... It has the feel of some of the older instrumental tracks I would imagine on bands such as Rush or Yes’ albums. It’s also pretty trippy, so give it a listen!
Kweevak.com review of Game On. 9/29/06 Terry Daun has been playing music in bands for decades and in more recent years he has been working as a solo artist. Game On features nineteen-tracks written and produced by Terry. Daun is a drummer but his main instrument of choice is a Korg Triton, which allows him to craft a broad range of sounds and styles. The CD is a blend of classic rock influences and experimental electronica with a dash of psychedelic and R&B thrown in for good measure. Terry’s songs feature a diverse range of textures and tempos. The opening track, ‘My Six Furry Friends’ is a creative carnival of images and tones. ‘Give A Little’ is an insightful rocker. A positive thing that can be said about Daun at this point is that there is more than a small hint of Peter Gabriel in Daun’s vocal styling during “Clear Traffic Ahead”. One cannot claim that Daun is trying to rip them off; 19 tracks at 66 minutes give listeners an exhaustive description of eir musical style. “Give A Little” has Daun steal the practice tapes of Journey for the instrumentation of the track. The vocals fit interestingly during this track, but I think that the instrumentation is head and shoulders above any vocals that make their way onto this track.
Daun is able to create a cohesive album through and though with “Game On”. While the tracks may never make it to the Billboard charts, there is a sort of fun, almost Atom and His Package meets David Hasslehoff sound to the output of Daun. Saying that, this is not a polished album, and individuals may be turned off by the roughness around the disc’s edges. Daun was able to get a collection of tracks out here that all share a slew of commonalities without the tracks rolling together. There is some commonality with artists like Steve Lieberman (and more so) Mizar, but Daun’s bread and butter is electronic and R&B music, for sure.
I don’t know where Daun will go with future albums, but here’s to hoping that Daun can go forth and get a producer and engineer on staff that can provide different viewpoints about what would make the best approach. Top Tracks: Lady of the Night, Get Up Rating: 5.4/10 [JMcQ]

TERRY DAUN ANNOUNCES WORLDWIDE RELEASE OF GAME ON
Self-performed masterwork includes ten remixed and eight new tracks
PHOENIX, AZ Terry Daun, drummer, songwriter, vocalist, Master of the Korg Triton, announces the worldwide release of Game On, his latest work that melds remixed favorites with new material thats sure to please his fans. The album is available for sale on CD Baby.
Daun arranged, performed and produced the album at his My Furry Friends Studio, a first-time experience that surprised him with its intensity. The learning curve is steep, but its a real high when you lay down a single track that brings it all together, Daun says. Its like building a house. You can't always tell what you're going to have just by looking at the foundation. It is usually during the framing that you start to see where the house is going.
The album includes ten remixed tracks from his limited-release album Get Up (2004), the increasingly popular instrumental "A Walk In The Park," and eight new tracks including "It's King's I'm Talking About" and "Get Up."
Its a nice progression for a guy who spent a good part of his musical career playing a set of 1969 White Pearl Ludwigs. His performing career includes being a member of Moments Notice, The Penetrators, KATO (a Cream cover band), Attitude Cat, Is Not Is Too, Manic-N, and from 2001 to 2003 White Noize. He was the principal of TMD Entertainment, a Karaoke / DJ company he founded in 1991, until this past February, when he packed in the mike to devote his time to writing and recording.
I am still finding my place as a solo artist in this whole music thing; learning something new about the biz every day, he says. I think that we are at the forefront of a new age in the recording artsit could very well be the same as it was in the 1960s when the market was wide open for new and interesting talent.
Daun is one of those artists with the enviable ability to acquire knowledge, technique and inspiration from musicians and groups they admire, yet retain a unique sound. His list reads like the roster of the All-Rock-Jazz-Fusion team: Hendrix, Jean Luc Ponty, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa. All artists, to a man, willing to take the musical status quo and screw with itjust to watch the reaction.
He synthesizes his one-of-a-kind Daun sound by staying true to his musical roots. I prefer to let the instrumentation guide me into the words and story, he says. If I am going to write a song and not an instrumental, Ill arrange and construct the music in a song format. I can also write music from interpreting the words.
Daun said that as a drummer he grew accustomed to listening to instrumentation first. It wasn't till later in life that I began to really listen to what was being said, he added.
That made all the difference. As his new album gains momentum and airplay, the day is rapidly approaching when he can fulfill his ultimate musical dream. "Id like to have a full band performing my music with me out in front of thousands of screaming fans, he says. Hell, I would love to be out there even if it was by myself."
Terry Dauns new album, Game On, is slated for worldwide release in August 2006.
