As an instrumentalist, vocalist, bandleader, Master of Ceremonies, producer, and talent manager, David has been providing quality entertainment in the Washington area for over 20 years.
In 2003 David received the Jazz History Appreciation Month Award from the Department of the Interior for his “musical achievements, accomplishments, and dedication…” Congress created the Jazz History Appreciation Month Award in 1987, and Presidents Clinton and G.W. Bush ordered that awards be given to recognize outstanding contributors to the art of jazz.
He retired as a member of "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band with more than 20 years of service. During that time, he served 6 presidents. He performed as solo saxophonist and vocalist with the 8 member White House Dance Band, and as principal bassoonist in the White House Chamber Orchestra and Concert Band. Overseas concert tours with The Marine Band included, Ireland, Norway, and a tour of 5 major cities in the USSR (1990), as well as touring throughout each of our 48 contiguous states.
At the age of 13, David was already leading popular dance bands in his hometown of Winchester, Virginia. He then earned his Bachelor of Music degree, Magna cum Laude, from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music ('73). While still attending conservatory he toured and recorded with Stax Records, accompanying such artists as Isaac Hayes and Luther Ingram. Both artists had number 1 song hits that year (1972). David also appeared in the movie, Watts/Stax '72, and more recently in Rob Reiner's film, A Few Good Men (1992). While a student at Shenandoah Conservatory, Mr. Wright's first ballet composition, The Hollow Men, was produced, and performed for a Title 9 (Arts) regional tour.
Next came acceptance to The Juilliard School of Music and studies with the world renowned bassoonist, William Polisi. Mr. Wright received his Master of Music degree in Performance from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. ('74). David currently works closely with several charities, and is a member of the selection committee for the Panasonic and Rose Kennedy Awards offered by Very Special Arts, International. Mr. Wright served as a curriculum advisor for The George Washington University. David also serves on the Board of Directors of the Broad Creek Citizens' Association and is President of the Riverview Citizens Association.
In 1995, Dyane Wright joined the staff of Wright Music after retiring from The US Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra with 20 years of service.
