An Invitation To An Accident Chapter One
July 2005, Wakefield West Yorkshire, four guys, Mat (Guitar & Vocals), Ian (Guitar), Dan (Bass) & Justin (Drums), sharing the same love for punk rock and music began to rehearse regularly as a band after meeting and sharing the desire to have some fun and make some interesting, sincere and passionate music.
The early months involved the band working very hard writing their first set of songs, with an aim to experiment and develop and try and establish the long term sound of the band early on. Things went well and the four became closer friends and it was decided to bring these songs into a live setting and given the opportunity in late September that year, the band played their first twos shows first supporting Pictures Paint Words and Above Them followed later that month supporting Best Of Enemies and Broadways Not Ready.
Then the opportunity to record some demos of the songs they had been working on for months arrived. In late January 2006 the band went upstairs at their usual rehearsal space at Diamond Studios in Wakefield to record five tracks. Two of these tracks, Spitfire Jukebox and Dont Expect Roses would later surface on the self titled EP they put out later in the year as well as being released online. Alongside this, the track Face To Face was also released for free download. The band continued to rehearse relentlessly writing new songs and playing shows whenever they could.
An Invitation To An Accident Chapter Two
At the beginning of April the band played a gig in Preston, Lancashire with their friends in Carthirtyeight, It was announced that this would be Dans last show with the band. At this point the group discussed the next logical move from this point and Mats long time friend Joe Bell stepped in and joined the band as the bassist. The band took a couple of months to work on new songs with Joe as well as working on the songs they had previously been happy with. This followed with a few gigs then another recording session to rerecord Where Were Going We Dont Needs Roads & All My Dreams Involve Superheroes as well as a new song Shatter The Earth. This record session resulted in the final three tracks that would come together with Spitfire and Roses to be the bands debut five track self titled EP, which reflected collectively the first year of An Invitation To An Accident making music. The EP was released in May and to this date has sold just over 100 copies through sales at shows and at a local record store.
An Invitation To An Accident Chapter Three
With the machine functioning of full cylinders the band closed 2006 on a series of highs. They completed work on some new songs, 2 of which they recorded and uploaded online prior to being released on a future CD. In The Arms Of The City and The Highwire Contest displayed a much more developed and dynamic approach to their song writing. The backing vocals you can hear at various points in the songs come from their friends, Ben and Callum from Carthirtyeight.
The band have spent most of the New Year rehearsing and writing some new songs and 2007 promises to be an exciting one. The first major step is the release of the bands second EP In The Arms Of The City. The release has been delayed because of the recording of the other three songs has not been completed yet. The band plan to record a new version of Spitfire Jukebox plus three new songs to complete the In The Arms Of The City EP in March. April is the busiest month yet as the first week of April the band are taking their holidays at work and going on the road.
Aside from An Invitation To An Accident, Mat has his own solo Mat goes Acoustic with plenty of songs written hes now in the process of recording his first album and also some An Invitation To An Accident songs stripped down. Justin plays drums in Pontefract, West Yorkshire based noise merchants My Angel Empire who will be recording their first ever demo early this year.
We now have an online store where you can purchase our self titled ep or even a t-shirt! |
