Elusive. Dynamic. Frenetic. That's how some describe thirdgate, an up-and-coming band from Tempe, Arizona, that mixes jazz complexity with the energy of progressive rock. An alliance of members from the successful groups Horticulture and Phatty Acidz, the members of thirdgate have started anew to come up with a sound that is uniquely their own. After more than a year skulking in their secret lab, they have emerged with original songs that emphasize their passion for inspired jams, tight harmonies, and energetic music that's as fun to play as it is to listen and dance to.
Like most bands, thirdgate formed almost by accident. An unfortunate beer-spilling incident led to the Phatty Acidz losing their drummer. Nik, the drummer for the defunct (gotta love that word) Horticulture, came to fill the gap, and brought Horti's guitarist Dan. A decision was made to create a brand new band with new songs, and thirdgate was born, though it would take more than a year and a lot of agony to finally decide on its name.
Right away, the band collaborated on new songs that parted from the norm. Flamencos with weird time signatures, hillbilly anthems and urban melodies about the pathos of capitalism came forth. Jazz, rock and latin music all find a home in thirdgate's unique blend of genres.
Thirdgate is currently in the process of mixing a demo album with the songs Catalina, Azure Skies, Sugardaddy and Possum Porridge Town. Keep an eye on the gig list, and make sure to bring your dancin' shoes to our shows! |
