Pavel Jany, a classical, bossa nova and contemporary jazz guitarist, percussionist and composer, was first introduced to Brazilian music through the works of classical composer Heitor Villa-Lobos and legendary guitarist Baden Powell, while he was studying classical guitar in Europe. He was further inspired by a number of bossa nova artists and, by some of the masters of Brazilian fusion such as, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim. His interest in samba and Afro-Brazilian music deepened during his three year stay in West Africa.
In 1999 he began his search for local and international talents to work with on his vision of a bossa nova and Brazilian jazz project. The result is a unique and well established ensemble which is named after the title track of its first album.
Ticket To Brasil has performed at a number of local and international events, including: the Winnipeg Jazz Festival, Bloomington Latin Jazz Festival, MN Hot Summer Jazz Festival, Ordway World Stage Festival, MN Winter Jazz Festival, MN Orchestra MusicFest, and more. The group has been an opening act for such renowned artists as Karrin Allyson and Cibelle. |
