What a difference a year makes. Since releasing Portraits independently in 2005 Tim Tibbitts has seen his popularity grow in leaps and bounds. Hes toured both Canada and the USA including The James Brown Festival in Augusta Georgia with James Brown himself, received more great press from all over the world than one would care to read, had the cd signed for re-release in Canada by award winning indie label Nevada/Koch and now has garnered a nomination as Best Male Performer at the 2006 Toronto Independent Music Awards. Not a bad year by anyones standards in the indie world. Throw in radio play in more than 20 countries and you have 2006 in a nutshell for Tim Tibbitts.

PRESS:
Acoustic Guitar Magazine/Globe and Mail, Gregory R. McGuire:
Tim Tibbitts - Portraits is a dynamite collection of tunes that might best be classified as power-pop, with strong elements of Americana. Tibbitts demonstrates some stellar guitar work, with a power vibe somewhat reminiscent of the 70s. Extremely well recorded, and the artist shows a strong feel for heartfelt songwriting. This is a very impressive disc, and I look forward to hearing more from Tibbitts in the future.
Zietgiest UK:
I had been told in advance that the killer track on this ceedee was "You Got Me", and there it was, track 2, one of the finest heartbreak songs I've heard in a long while. Tim has a directness about his music that is very refreshing and his modern take on classic American rock is big of melody and chorus in a way that only wide open spaces seems to generate.
If you like your music to have shades of Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls and Barenaked Ladies then you're going to enjoy this. The songs are well crafted, each worthy of your attention with Tim's manly voice icing on the cake. No fey, girlboy voices here, thank you very much.
Download.com:
Ontario's Tim Tibbitts plays a John Mayer brand of drama pop, using earnest vocals to catapult hooky, guitar-based tunes. But what stands out is the wise use of jazzy flourishes such as agile acoustic guitar riffs and piano runs, which give his songs an added layer of body and soul.
Phoenix Revolution.com Kristyn Cunningham:
His voice was beautiful enough to make me ache…Tim was honestly the only artist that night whose set I saw in its entirety, and the only one I honestly WANTED to see. And he was fabulous. No. Phenomenal. His voice reverberated through the Elmo like an angel's choir. He made people stop and stare.
Streetblast.com:
Just listening to the lyrics of “You got me” a few times, and I found myself some how singing along, really getting in to the song. It is a song that I feel any one that has really cared about anyone, and been *&^%$ over can feel! But, It’s not some whiney ass song about being dumped… it’s an upbeat positive song that offers encouragement and a positive message. Tim Tibbitts is an artist that I would recommend to anyone who loves acoustic guitar, great vocals, and amazing lyrics!
Soundclick.com-Ray Varela:
I'm listening to your music right now and I have read your band page interview at SC and I totally agree with you about the purpose of music, though there are many these days, passion is what really turns people's heads! Music should cry out with passion and your vocal certainly has volition and is laden with dynamics.
Tell Me and Time Has Come are both strong tracks but my favorite of the two is the latter....
To sum it up, you should do really well with the CD, your music is well written and you do have a powerful vocal style. I can't critique anything to much, especially when it's near perfection in all aspects of songwriting and production! Great lyrics too...........
New Rock Underground- Randy Haber:
With a soulful voice like honey and overall passionate presence, Tim Tibbitts can’t go wrong with these well produced tracks. Fans of Live, The Calling, Counting Crows and similar artists will like this!
101 FM Logan City Australia Terry Neal:
Tim Tibbits new album Portraits is a collection of a variety of folk/pop songs that range from the beautifully worded ballad "Tonight' to the harder edged "Turning Around". The album is well produced and with a range of styles that keeps it interesting and entertaining. You can't always tell where Tim is going to take a song!! An album that gets better with each listen as you discover more of the complex arrangements that go to make up some of the songs.
96.5 Inner FM Melbourne Australia Barry Wass:
Tim Tibbitts Portraits sounds almost autobiographical in its contents. His voice seems to echo disapointments of dreams gone sour. Plaintive pleadings coupled with bright periods make this an unusual but thoroughly enjoyable cd.
Lonestar Radio Japan Tom Kawai:
Some Jazzy, Some Country, Some Folky, but rock the cradle and power storm flows from his brain. It seems he is not only a singer/writer but actor of his own poetry. Very promising.
Nambucca Valley Radio. 105.9fm Australila David McCrory:
This CD is refreshing with a good beat a better voice and is really great for breakfast.
Soundclick.com reviews “Tell Me”-Steve Smith:
Let me preface my remarks by saying this song is too good for me to review.
Nice guitar sounds and playing open this one with some interesting suspended chord harmonies. The bass and vocal and piano and guitar sounds are superb, well crafted, mixed and engineered. The writing is great - nice blend of instrumental breaks and vocal lines.
The pedal guitar work (volume/pedal) is superbly used as a feature around 1:40 and the chorus builds around 1:50 to epic proportions. Stunning bridge orchestral sounds at 2:20 - I'm reminded of "Iris" by the GooGooDolls (favorable). The energy level builds and then wanes and the guitar noises are immaculately placed in the mix. 3:16 brings us back to the opening mood, and we see a masterly track conclude. If I venture any criticism, the vocals are a tad "dry" in places - especially at the end and the beginning of the track where it is most exposed. (This is me nitpicking to the extreme).
This is among the best-crafted commercial music you'll here on soundclick, or in fact anywhere. I could string superlatives together and grasp for hyperbole, but instead I'll say one thing only: Where can I buy the Tim Tibbitts CD?
Radio Heerde Netherlands-Jan Nederveen:
Tim Tibbitts is not the average mainstream singer. He has a vital, soulful voice and you had to listen to the songs to the end. When he sings, he is in your room.
Soundclick.com Steve Gilmore reviews Tell Me:
First time I heard this guy was July 2005 when I reviewed (and was floored by) his You Got Me track. As well produced as excellently performed You Got Me got me - and within seconds too. It still sits on
my hard drive, accompanied by Time Has Come which just goes to show what a high opinion I have of this guys work. Time Has Come in particular holds me in it's thrall; with it's big-sky mix and Jesse Colin Young-ish vocal lines, it's turned into one of my favourite tracks over the past few months and it's place in my heart is assured forever. Not bad for a guy who has (pretty much) just appeared on the scene. Don't let that newbie gaze fool you though, from note one it's obvious that Tim knows exactly what he's doing; a true professional with the production nous to match.
The thing about ANY of the tracks I have just mentioned, the thing that will nail you to the wall is the sheer, overpowering sound this guy generates and - here's the science bit - he does it in the Acoustic Rock genre. How wild is that? Actually, if you know anything about this genre (especially the North America singer/songwriter branch) you'll recognize all of our Tim's Tricks. What I absolutely guarantee you won't recognize is just HOW good he is. Nope. Uh uh. You'd probably think the same thing as I did; this is some Wizard of Oz thingie. Nobody could be this good. It's with a heavily deflated ego that I eventually own up to the understanding that, having reviewed all three of his tracks now, this man is the real McCoy. A powerful, emotional performer encased in a production that the majors would give their eye teeth for.
So why isn't he signed already?
Tell Me merely substantiates what I already know about this artist and it's the slowest track of the three, although in emotional power terms, this is a biggie. Tim effortlessly seems to blend all that is holy in acoustic rock (catchy, tuneful guitars, wailing soulful voices and BIG - nay ferkin HUGE - drums) into a musical tour-de-force that cannot be described adequately. This is a track to experience, wallow in the depth of stereo field and gape in awe at a master at work. From the rock solid perfection of all the performances to the mix as big as the world, Tell Me is yet another Tim Tibbitts masterpeice. If ANYONE has impressed me this year, it's got to be this guy - take a listen to any of these three tracks and I bet you are hooked within ten seconds. This is about as good as it ever gets.
