Tonic consists of Emerson Hart (vocalist/guitar), Jeff Russo (guitar), Dan Rothchild (bass), Kevin Shephard (drummer). The group formed in 1993 and began playing gigs in Los Angeles. The group soon signed to A&M Records. Tonic released Lemon Parade in July 1996. Rothchild left the band and was replaced by Dan Lavery. The single, “If You Could Only See,” was a number one hit. The group appeared on Letterman, Conan O’Brian, Vibe, and Keenan Ivory Wayans. The album soon went platinum. Tonic was also featured on the soundtracks of Scream 2, X Files, and Clay Pigeons. In 1999, Tonic released Sugar. In 2002, they released Head on Straight. The album included the hit single, “Take Me As I Am.” The album also featured the hit single, “You Wanted More.” The single was featured on the American Pie soundtrack. In 2003, Tonic was nominated for two Grammy nominations: Best Rock Album and Best rock Performance by a Duo or Group.
