| Born in La Mina, a neighborhood of Santo Domingo - the bustling capital of the Dominican Republic - Tony grew up immersed in the exotic sounds of his country's most coveted art form - merengue. First singing in the church choir, he quickly graduated to performing with local bands, maintaining his musical connection even as he graduated with a doctorate in medicine.
In 2006 Tony participated in the acclaimed Dominican reality show produced by multi-award winning television personality Jatna Tavares "Que Viva El Merengue." His skills brought to the forefront, Tony attracted the attention of Premium Latin Music and was promptly signed. This is his debut production; Tony's steaming vocals strain at the bit to put orchestral merengue back on the map as a popular force in tropical music.
Tony is in great company. The arrangers on this project represent the "best-of" in Dominican music, with the legendary Dionis Fernandez, Ramon Orlando and Henry Hierro - as well as the cutting-edge younger generation: Makumba, Delvi Cruz Landestoy and Rafael Ortega. ASCAP award-winning songwriter Wason Brazoban has contributed the majority of the musical selections with Tony Lopez, Delvi Cruz Landestoy, Ramon Orlando, Edwin Garcia as well as Tony himself rounding out the musical content on this exciting CD.
