Born Todd Shaw on April 28 1966. Too Short a.k.a. Short Dog became known as the ghetto pimp of rap. Although hes first major label release wasnt until hes 1988 classic Life is Too Short. Short had been long making rap albums and selling them from the back of hes car. Shorts style was slow but rolled nicely to the beats he chose to rap to. Hes material was generally sexually explicit which restricted radio play all be it, he still managed to attract a huge following. Although many believe that his 1988 release was hes best, it wasnt until he teamed up with Ant "the big Bad ass" Banks in 92 for hes release of Shorty the Pimp that hes albums all of a sudden started going platinum. Always a big fan of 70s funk, no other producer could lay claim to intensely deep funky beats as Banks and along with Shorts basic but funky flowing rap style they were well suited to release high quality material together. Both Shorty the Pimp and Get in Where You fit in released in 93 went platinum but hes 1995 effort Cocktails became critically acclaimed as hes most consistant despite Banks only producing 3 tracks on that album. It was still evident on Cocktails that Banks still had the funkiest beats to offer including the amazing Top Down. Short was set to retire after hes 10th release in 96 with Gettin It which also proved less consistant to hes previous 3 releases. However after 3 years off, Short returned with a knew sound in 99 with Cant stay away. A more up dated production style that lacked that same funky feel as hes earlier works. To this day Short keeps putting out album after album year after year making him one of the most prolific rappers of all time.
