| The Toretz are an eclectic collective of musicians, playing a mix of 'Oompah- Ska', Swing, and Jazz'n'Bass. They have an original, lively and humorous sound. They come from a range of musical backgrounds such as funk, hip-hop, jazz, drum and bass and feature the unusual brass/wind section of clarinet, saxophone, trombone and (occasionally) flute. Amidst the humour, The Toretz inject some serious political satire.
They have been described by by DJ Ambiessence (Future Sound of Exeter). www.fsoe.org "...Tor and his Toretz have a jazzy vibe with a hint of drumn'n'bass, a good dose of Ian Dury-style vocals, and a strange liking for marine wildlife." and Paul Docherty (The Cosmic Roughriders) www.cosmicroughriders.com “…the lyrical energy of Ian Dury and Madness combined with some trippy grooves; I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the set …”
Renowned cartoonist Polyp www.politicos.co.uk/item.jsp?ID=4722 has given the band kind permission to the use his artwork 'Spotless' for their promotional material Polyp “The Toretz are refreshing rude, political, and funny”

They encourage audience participation at their gigs and always get a good response. They have supported 'Here & Now' www.planetgong.co.uk (formerly Gong) & 'The Collectiv', www.thecollectiv.com ‘L T J Bukem’ www.glo.uk.com 'nik turner (x hawkwind)' The play a stroming set at the Endorse-it festival in Dorset http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/endorseitindorset/2005/galleries.shtml They are to support Asian Dub Foundation in Decemeber for www.fsoe.org
The Toretz performed several times a day at Glastonbury 2004 as a ‘live walk around performance piece’ with the SENSE 3D 12 volt soundsystem, www.sense.3D.com., dancers and performers. They also performed at The Thames Festival Night Carnival www.thamesfestival.org last year with live drumming and brass, woodwind and vocals. The show had rave reviews, such as Pax Nindi (Senior Carnival Arts Officer (National) Arts Council England Combined Arts Unit – London) " The Toretz walk around band which I witnessed in the Thames Night Carnival was very entertaining and original in its presentation. It is an idea that would benefit carnivals and festivals in this country bearing in mind some of the noise and pollution problems caused by big trucks. If performing music in these events is going to be environmental friendly as well as interactive then Toretz have got it!"
Adrian Evans (Thames Festival Director) “The Toretz are incredibly lively, visual and entertaining. We can’t wait to have them back again this year.”
