| tour·ma·line ('turmu`leen) - [noun] 1. a mineral that is a complex borosilicate and hydroxide of aluminum containing iron, magnesium, calcium, lithium, and sodium; it is usually black but occurs in transparent colored forms that are used as gemstones 2. [band] a group hailing from the garden state, preparing to take the music world by storm. Carefully mixing an array of musical influences, from Jeff Buckley to Brand New, Elvis Costello to The Get Up Kids, The Beatles to Elliott Smith, and musically transcending several genres with their unique synth-driven melodies, powerful vocals, and heartfelt lyrics, Tourmaline is guaranteed to "somehow just blow you away" (utterpunk.com). Matt Rauch, Ryan Baredes, Andrew Koes, Max Rauch, and Corey Zaloom formed Tourmaline early in 2004, and one year later they've found themselves signing to indie label No Milk Records (Socratic / Halifax), recording with producer Chris Badami (The Early November / The Starting Line), having a track ("Blank") on a nationally distrubuted Drive Thru Records compiliation, and sharing the stage with acts such as Head Automatica, Name Taken, The Beautiful Mistake, Socratic,Punchline, and many more both in, and out of state. With a full length scheduled to be released on No Milk Records and plans to tour this summer, Tourmaline is showing that they are a musical force to be reckoned with. Combined with a relentless practicing schedule, frequent visits to the studio, powerful songwriting, and a unrelenting drive to succeed, Tourmaline is quickly proving that they are indeed a precious gem in today's music world.
