Surf Guitar, Punk Rock Energy, and Lyrics with Real Integrity, these are the makings of the band known as the Turbo A.C.'s. Some that have attempted to describe have said..." A Faster Punker Hives..." or a " Motorhead / Dick Dale / Social Distortion Cocktail ". Whatever they say The Turbo A.C.s continuously deliver their trademark style with unparalleled ferocity and attitude.
The Turbo A.C.s, got their start in NYC cutting their teeth blowing away crowds at the legendary CBGBs doing shows with Social Distortion, Sick of it All, even No Doubt. Though they're proud New Yorkers they've always considered themselves more an "international rock and roll machine!!" than a NYC band, and they've proven just that with a great world wide fan base.
It was back in 1996 when world famous NY hard-core label Blackout records put out the first Turbo A.C.'s album "Damnation Overdrive". The A.C.'s feeling confined by the monotonous drone of the NY scene hit the road immediately being invited to tour Europe before the album was even released in the US. They knew that they had something more to offer than the most of the faceless punk bands out there and toured the US and Europe with little to no label support. On their 1st tour they even got stuck squatting in Germany and Italy while shows were canceled due to some bad promoters or bad agents. Embracing it all, the band endured, and adopted the skull and monkeywrench as their logo. After relentless DIY touring In 1998, (and with Lead Singer Guitarist Kevin Cole recovering from a major head injury from a surfing accident in Puerto Rico) the exhausted but inspired Turbos found time to get back in the studio and recored "Winner Take All". With this album, released originally on super Garage/Punk Rock label Cacophone records from upstate NY, the "Turbo-sound" really took off. Gearhead magazine called it "brilliant!... a younger hungrier Supersuckers", Flipside, and many fanzines featured the band, and it wasn't long before the skull and monkey wrenches appeared painted on many leather jackets. The popularity of "Winner Take All" even got the Turbo's invited to play the '99 Warped tour in Germany. Even though things were looking up the monkey wrench would still rear it's ugly head, and the A.C.'s would have to rise above. Once they even had to use duct tape to rig their nearly totaled van to dangerously continue a European tour.
After a productive year of touring the states and Europe, friend and fan Roger Miret of the NY/HC heroes Agnostic Front, stepped in to produce the next album "Fuel For Life".
This album of the hardest hitting Turbo A.C.'s material to date caught the attention of the folks at Nitro records, and The Turbo A.C.'s signed on to Nitro. Then they faced with another uphill battle, 1st having to survive a nearly fatal crash in the mountains of Wyoming which totaled their van and trailer, then touring in the shadow of 9/11. Despite the crashes and catastrophes, the A.C.'s persevered and completed a very successful East Coast tour w/ Flogging Molly as well as touring all of Europe and the UK on the "Deconstruction Tour".
In the winter 2002 the A.C.'s traveled to Los Angeles CA to record the new album "Automatic" with none other than the notorious Blag Dahlia of the Dwarves stepping in as the producer. "Automatic" has been hailed as sonically and substantially the biggest Turbo's A.C.'s album! Released on Gearhead (The Hives, Hellacopters, New Bomb Turks...) in the US, and Bitzcore (Turbonegro, Cocksparrer... ) in Europe. A break- through album for the Turbo A.C.'s in Europe, they found themselves moving up to the next level, and they've spent the better part of the last couple years on the road bringing their trademark style to the ever growing number of fans world wide. (Many now sporting Turbo A.C.'s tattoos!)
Now, The Turbo A.C.'s have created "Avenue X", with the strongest songs they've ever written it's the ultimate collection of surfguitar-punkrock anthems. No compromises have been taken in writing or recording this album. Produced by the band and recorded right in the same neighborhood where they got their start they've brought out easily the best Turbo A.C.'s album ever. To celebrate the release, The A.C.'s were invited to have the release party for Ave X as a part of the World Turbojugend Fest playing along side Turbonegro in Hamburg Germany.
These 3 original members have stuck together through thick and thin. With all the trials and tribulations the Turbo A.C.s have endured it's no coincidence that their songs carry a positive "Louder! Faster! Flip the bird in the face of disaster" message, and it's no doubt that they believe in that message to the core. Whether The Turbo A.C.'s are back where they started on the East Coast playing basement punkrock shows with the Dropkick Murphys, or on stage in front of 10,000 people at a festival in Europe, the style and integrity remains intact, the songs are fuel for life, and the message is "Live to Win!"
