“Remember, UBIK is only seconds away, it's ontological.”
UBIK is the new project for ex-Spacemen 3 member Sterling Roswell, 'Rosco'.
Falling out of art school aged 18 into the crash-course in the MC5, Stooges, Stones and Velvets that was the psychedelic Spacemen 3, Rosco survived to collaborate in Darkside on Beggars Banquet. Since that project he has been living in Rome, Italy, where he added TV presenter and DJ to his long c.v. Probably the spaciest of the Spacemen, Rosco is constantly researching music, art and science fiction, and he describes UBIK as 'Space Age Pop' and 'an Association of Autonomous Astronauts'.
UBIK are the first signing in 3 years to the Mint label (who first brought you Mercury Rev). The first offering is this full-on instrumental track, the self-titled 'Ubik' 12" & CD single, recorded in Rome. As well as the full version, the single has a ‘Freqz’ radio edit, a ‘Saturnalia’ Euro dance version and a fourth track, ‘VU Beats’. (This stunning debut only hints at Rosco’s fertile imagination and the vocal songs that are to follow up.)
Now based in the UK, UBIK have morphed into a live band with Ingo Schwartz from Rome on bass and Danny Payne from London on drums. They've warmed up live with a few Camden circuit gigs, in Brighton and at Julian Cope's Kosmiche club at the Garage; soon they're scheduling more live dates to showcase their unique UBIK psychedelic sci-fi pop vision.
“The object of this experimental transmission is to translate our audio/visual data and test signals in your energy zones and environmental area.
Please confirm bandwidth specifications and requirements.”
