Unwritten law was formed in the early 1990s. After many changes in group members, Unwritten Law finally consisted of Wade Youman (drums), Scott Russo (vocals), Rob Brewer (guitar), Steve Morris (guitar), and John Bell (bass). Unwritten Law’s debut album, Blue Room, was released by a small independent label. Shortly after the album’s release, unwritten Law began touring the United States. They eventually stopped after becoming angered by the lack of album distribution from their tiny label. The group soon after signed to Epic Records (Epic eventually re-released Blue Room). In 1996, the group released Oz Factor. In 1997, Unwritten Law changed labels once again; signing with Interscope Records. Soon after joining with Interscope, Bell left the group and was replaced by Sprung Monkey’s Pat Kim. In 2002, Unwritten Law released Elva. The album’s single entitled “Seein’ Red,” did very well on TRL and mainstream radio stations. The group then made a deal with Lava Records. In 2003, Unwritten Law released Music In High Places. They then recorded the Music In High Places Television Series for MTV. The group performed at Yellowstone National Park. The series was describes as National Geographic meeting The Vans Warped Tour.
