why is 'contraband' getting such bad reviews? i thought that album kicked ass when i bought it and listened to it, but apparently critics disagree...the highest i saw that it was rated was "4 out of 5 stars." by Rolling Stone magazine.
I've seen the album go as low as a D.

Even though I think it's awesome, I think the bad reviews come from either the origanality or the lyrics department. The song ideas weren't exactly new or breakthrough or anything , and they swore a lot on it. Which kinda takes away from the music. | L1th1um |
yeah the lyrics weren't anything original...but what lyrics are these days? | BLASTT |
| Almost none. But the point still stands. | L1th1um |
Meh, i dont like it. I dont think it deserves any good reviews. I liked about two songs off it, i thought the rest was all filler. I think the album was just a money grab. | AIC4LIFE |

If you look at the reviews on amazon.com, about 90% of the bad ones are because of the fact that it has copy protection. Geezus people, get over it. Who cares if you cant rip songs to your damn i-pod. | big-k |
if you think about their roots though (guns n roses and stone temple pilots) it is a requirement to swear excessivly. | Donny_Darko |
well we weren't talking about cursing in the lyrics... | BLASTT |
I think this album is great. I don't give a rats ass what critics or what any other people think. This is a pretty good album. | riff_master |

critics will be critics..who knows what's stuck up their asses? i love this album so i really don't car what they say. Plus, critics don't sell the album... | its_just_willy |
The music's pretty cool for the most part, but the whole damn album is unoriginal. Plus, Slash is a bitch. | losersalwayswin |
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! SLash owns your mitochondria...just to let yah know... | Future_Mrs_Mikey_Way |
I liked the album, it was pretty good...my band even covers Fall to Pieces. However, I would agree that the originality was lacking alot on the album, it sounded like a lot of old stuff hashed together, but again that is not a bad thing, just a lack of creativity. Remember guys, these guys wrote thier absolute best material when strung out on drugs, and for the most part they are clean now, so originality will be harder to come buy. I would agree with Roling Stones though, a 4 out of 5 is a good rating for this album... | pwdre_ser |
Maybe the critics were expecting the album to sound like something Guns N' Roses did. After all, 3 out of the 5 members of Velevet Revolver were from G N'R. But listening to the album, I couldn't point out any songs that sounded like Guns N' Roses did. That really dissappointed me, as I love GNR. But even though it doesn't really sound like them, Contraband is a great album. | aces_high |
