Von Wayne Charles a.k.a. Wayne Wonder is a leading pioneer in the quest to get soca music into the hearts of non-west indians. In the Caribbean, the soca music is already over-whelmingly popular but not so everywhere else but Wayne proved that soca stars can still be popular outside the blue waters of the West Indies when his international debut "No Letting Go" entered the UK charts at number 2.
32 year old Wayne grew up in Jamaica to a musical family and began singing at Sunday School at an early age. Although his family moved about a lot, he had his heart set on making it as a singer.
Up until very recently, his talent had gone so far, unoticed after releasing a few minor hits in and around Jamaica.
2003, however, was Waynes breakthrough year as he managed to land himself an international record label and promptly released his debut studio albulm entitled "No Holding Back". With this albulm he released two hit singles. One of them being the voted 13th best song of 2003. That was,of course, the sick :"No Letting Go" that song has since become the anthem for lovers of soft soca.
Wayne hopes to build on his global success and plans to make soca popular throughout the world. And I wouldnt bet against him doing just that.
