Weezer begin with the four members Rivers Cuomo (songwriter/lead guitarist and vocals; b. 13 June 1970, Yogaville, Connecticut), Pat Wilson (drums; b. 1 February 1969, Buffalo, New York), Matt Sharp (bassist), and Jason Cropper (Guitarist). Jason Cropper left the band and started the band "Chopper One" with his wife. Brian Bell (b. 9 December 1968, Knoxville, Tennessee) took his place. Their first album (Self Titled; aka the Blue Album) was released in 1994, containing the hits "Undone" and "Buddy Holly". Many fans love this album, but Rivers has been quoted as saying that they hated the album, and said that everything about it was contrived..
In between Pinkerton and The Blue Album, 1. Rivers got a leg brace that was very painful. 2. He got braces (i think..) Meanwhile, Pat and Matt worked on their band "The Rentals" and Brian worked on his band "The Space Twins".
In 1996 they released Pinkerton. This album is *very* loosely based on Rivers's favorite opera, Madame Butterfly. The single "El Scorcho" was not well received, and the album got terrible reviews. This album went much deeper in to Rivers's soul (seriously), and he was very upset. He took a break from music and became depressed. Matt left the band, meanwhile.
After awhile, Rivers began to play shows under the name "The Rivers Cuomo Band" with Mikey Welsh. He became the new bassist for Weezer, and they released The Green Album, known for the songs "Hash Pipe" and "Island in the Sun". It was well received by the critics, but who care what the critics think? It had none of the depth of Pinkerton! Anyways, the band toured for awhile.
Mid-summer during 2001, Mikey left the band (rumor has it that his leave had something to do with drugs..) and the new bassist became Scott Shriner. They released Maladroit in May of 2002. This is probably their only album that you could simply call rock. The story of Weezer continues, as they are now working on their 5th album. A Weezer DVD will soon be coming out, and they are also releasing a special addition of The Blue Album.
