| "Undeniably a great LP" -- Tim Gane (Stereolab)
Genesis, the sole album by SF-based sisters Wendy and Bonnie Flower, ranks as one of the most remarkable unheard albums of 1969. The teens' debut effort was, sadly, their swan song due to the untimely demise of the Skye Records label. Though recorded over three decades ago, Genesis still sounds fresh and vital. Its melodic confections, evocatively produced and laced with radiant sisterly harmony, always tease the pleasure centers. The album's breezy Brazilian splashes and soft-rock strains convey a sophistication that belies the artists' tender ages (Wendy 17, Bonnie 13).
The LP was produced with affection and intelligence by vibraphonist Gary McFarland, and graced with the session brilliance of guitarist Larry Carlton, drummer Jim Keltner, jazz keyboard aces Mike Melvoin and Michael Lang, and bassist Randy Cierly. Genesis has been tabbed "the most exquisite pop record of the West Coast era" by UK music maven Mike Alway. Wendy and Bonnie's solitary masterpiece stands with the best of such other late '60s one-album wonders as The United States of America, The Millennium, Henske & Yester, and The Daughters of Albion.
This package marks the first CD reissue of Wendy and Bonnie's neglected landmark. Also included are a '67-vintage SF psych-rock nugget featuring the Flower sisters, and four acoustic home demos of unreleased songs.
