In his 10 years of international touring, Canadian born Wolf Mail has developed a very unique yet familiar alternative Blues rock style. His experiences have crafted him a soulful voice often compared to Joe Cocker and a passionate guitar playing reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. In Tom Branson’s own words “A sound that is both somehow familiar and yet very much original”
Traveling and discovering new cultures is an important part of Wolf’s creativity. “I try to soak in my touring experiences in my songwriting and share it with the fans” he recalls, as 2006 will be his fourth tour of the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, Germany, Austria, France, Holland, and Belgium. He has also performed or promoted his music in the U.K, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Mexico, Czech Republic, Morocco and New Zealand.
Wolf’s guitar style is very clean, powerful and yet intense. During one of his performances with the Fabulous Thunderbirds at the Narooma Blues festival in Australia, Tony Jagger from the Southern star has said “Words simply cannot describe the intensity and clarity that comes out of this man’s guitar” Mail’s playing is concentrated with no waste, as Linda Fisher quoted in the London Times “Wringing emotions out of every note and making each one count”.
Wolf tours as a trio with a drummer and bassist (electric or upright) and performs original material out of the 3 albums he has recorded . Bluesrockers magazine said of his songwriting that “It tends to demonstrate more of the beauty side of Blues rock “ A simple but very much mature kind of music. The Gloucester music Festival in the U.K summed it up well by saying “There is so much more subtlety here than is usually found at the rock end of the spectrum. Mail is way out in front and still traveling!”
Wolf is also an official endorsee for Carvin Amp. Samick / Greg Bennett guitars and Dean Markley strings. His previous release “Solid ground” spent 3 weeks in the Japanese top 10 best selling Blues CD (May 2005), and 10 days in the U.S top 100 best selling Blues CD (Dec 2003).
Wolf is also enjoying the support of many musicians, from Mark Knopfler asking for his own copy of “Solid ground” to Robben Ford requesting Wolf for opening act, to the 3M project, which features Mail with Australia’s top guitarists Mal Eastick, and Ian Moss.
Wolf’s upcoming book “What day job?” a guide to fellow musicians on how to improve ways to make a better living in the music business is scheduled for release March 2007.
Wolf’s live performances are legendary, and as Ron Edmonds from Exclusive management puts it “You always get something out of a Wolf Mail show, if you don’t relate to his music you will sure relate to the intense passion he’s got for it” |
